Do they make such a thing? Looking for a 300 win solid? Would like to take just my 300 win on the next trip. Leopard and culling plains game. Also opportunity for a tiny ten or two i don’t have yet.
I know 375 solid is a good option and will take along if need be. Any info? Sorry if this has been covered. I have looked at many of the tiny ten threads…. Thank you!

Cutting Edge makes them...

Shot many buffalo with 180 grain Woodleigh Hydros; many with the same weight CEB Safari Solid; and a few with the 220 grain Woodleigh FMJ… but with a .300H&H, although I did load up a heap of 180 grain Hydros in .300WM for a Police Officer who put them to good use on buffalo.

Just to clarify... Are you asking about using .30 caliber solids just for members of the tiny ten? If so, and if you're a handloader, why not try some 150 gr FMJ bullets? I've never tried them. Or would you also be using the solids for culling plains game?

I did have good results using my .30-06 with a 220 gr Woodleigh RN soft point on a Steenbok.

rifle: Ruger M77 Mk II .30-06 Springfield
handload: 220 gr Woodleigh RN at 2460 fps

Just trying to be helpful... Cheers! Bob F. :)

I met a gentleman from America several years ago, and he used Cutting Edge Bullet safari solid in his .300 Winchester magnum for the tiny ten.
For bigger animals, he used Berger Elite Hunter.
Both bullets had the same POI at 100 yards he said.

I would not recommend military-type FMJ's as hunting bullets, because of their propensity to tumble.

A "solid" like the ones mentioned above would be great for small animals and would probably the pencil through an animal without much pelt destruction. (round or tapered "hunting" bullets)

Cheap FMJ's are really designed and constructed just to to be cheap.

'Have some .308 tracers and FMJ if you want to head out at night w/ the solids??

Thank you all for responding!!!
To clarify i don’t hand load and i am looking for the solid in 300 win just to throw in if a tiny opportunity arises while culling. I shot a steenbok with my 300 and let’s say the mount could only be mounted with one-side against the wall. Trying to avoid that

I was hoping to just take my 300 win but will/can take 375 with solids if needed.

Not a "solid," but I'd bet that they perform like one on small animals.

the highest SD for caliber bullets (as others suggested-220 gr, 200 gr premium, less-expanding bullets should just punch right through as opposed to the 150-165 grainer low SD, high V.) There are also premium ammo-makers that will create solid ammo for you at a premium (i.e. >$100/box) IF the bullets are available. GL. Get 200-220 gr factory ammo (the V will be low) and shoot EVERYTHING on your hunt with it. You will NOT be disappointed! (my son culled 27 Orxy in Namib one summer using only 220s in 300WM and 3006 (ALL one shot.) We did the pygmy antelope slam earlier, but used 375 HH FMJs/Solids on those shots, and my son blew the far half of a dik-dik all the way home using my 264 WSM and Woodleigh 160s-it was just too close for that gun. Things that make a taxidermist cringe, smile and rub hands....(no big deal in the end-that side faces the wall!) lol

pls tell us exactly what ammo you shot the steinbok with and at what range? if typ 150 grain that's what i'd expect. I LOVE the 300 WM. bullet selection is key. I used to shoot woodchucks at long range using the only real centerfire I had at age 16 (30-30, 16 ga or 300 WM!) so i handloaded it with sierra HP 110 gr at 3,900 fps. I vividly recall shooting a woodchuck at 200 yd that literally resembled an institutional sized can of spam dumped on the ground. (exceptionally low SD-as designed.) A stout 200-220 won't let you down...hmm Also, ask your PH where to shoot it....I would think a pygmy antelope might pass out if you just flash a 300 Win Mag round in his face! ;) Many shot opps are too close-another issue. Klipspringer are my favorites, because of the territory they occupy. Maybe your PH has a shotgun for the close shots!

Good excuse to handload. The CEB 180 shoots to same POI as the 180 Scirocco. Very effective on tiny antelope.

Be aware parts of Africa do not allow solids (or especially military ammo).

It was about 80 yards with a 200 gr TBBC. Im not sure exactly what happened. Pencil on the way in and a small melon on the way out. Hit the shoulder on the way out. Duiker was no major issue definitely some damage and the dik dik used a .22lr twice behind the shoulder. So shot placement may be the real issue and i just need to pay attention to that…. Just was hoping for a perfect pencil hole bullet for the 300.

For this trip it would be used on a klippy.

Yes, solids are available in .300 Win Mag from several manufacturers. Brands like Barnes, Swift, and Woodleigh produce bonded solids or monolithic bullets designed for deep penetration on tough game. For your purposes - leopard and plains game culling - these would be a reliable choice, especially at closer ranges or for quartering shots. Just ensure your rifle stabilizes the heavier bullet weights (e.g., 200-220 grain). That said, for the "tiny ten" species, you might want to carry a separate load with softer projectiles to avoid excessive damage.

Great idea. Let us know what you get loaded and how it works.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

What is the minimum you would take.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
