I rather use the TSX. Don't like the tipped ones.

Why? it’s a worse bullet for plains game.

I’ve successfully taken wildebeest with my 7x57mm Mauser and 173Gr Sellier & Bellot SPCE. Mostly one shot kills.

In a .30-06 Springfield, I have always preferred the 220Gr Remington Core Lokt, although the 180Gr Remington Core Lokts hold a flatter trajectory out to longer ranges.

Modern bonded bullets are even better. For your wife, I should highly recommend the 180Gr Nosler AccuBond.

Have you tried a new recoil pad for the little lady ?
2400 fps is slow for a 180 30/06 should be in the 2700 fps range .

I have been using the 1.5 inch limb saver recoil pads on all of my rifles up to 458 win mag with 705 gr lead bullet at 1800 fps yes recoil is manageable but steel will kick you a lot ! my 458 is just 10.25 pounds with scope and a thin barrel new mod 70 CRF 24 inch

I will be putting the 1.5 inch recoil pad on a 458 lott I am having made for me along with a hart R.A.D. 2A recoil reducer in the stock but I am planning on the 458 lott shooting 705 gr bullets around 2000 to 2200 fps a whole lot of recoil on this one L.O.L

a 30/06 with 180 in the 2700 fps range WITH THE 1.5 INCH LIMB SAVER recoil pad will have felt recoil more like a 243 with out recoil pad .

Here is a 30/06 98 Mauser I just did for a friend the stock was cut very short I had to add 1/2 inch spacer and the 1.5 inch recoil pad to get to 13 7/8 inch oal .

I am retired and just do recoil pads for friends around me in New Mexico but it will help the little lady a whole lot if the rifle is fitted to her .

barnes 150 tsx 168 tsx and the 180 tsx will do what you are wanting to do with no problems
which ever one will shoot the very best go with it .

the barnes ttsx are made to open very quickly on impact the barnes LRX are better with the 300’s unless you are intending on shooting past 400 yards which you should not need to do in Africa.

Just making a suggestion to help her on recoil management with the lovely 30/06

There's a recoil pad and a brake on her rifle already. The pad isn't a Limbsaver (that's a story for another day) but it does an OK job.

Brakes are awesome. Gives you someplace to hold it in the vice while you cut it off.

“Irrelevant”? You’re worried about expansion at 2,400 fps with the TSX... and rightfully so! That’s why you came here to ask about it.

In most people’s experience, the TTSX opens up quicker and more reliably while still giving you the classic Barnes 99% weight retention, especially in .30 caliber.

So, since expansion is your concern and really the reason for this post, I thought the TTSX might be the better option.

But you clearly don’t like them for some reason you don’t care to share, which is fine.

You’ve had several uber experienced hunters in this thread tell you that you’ll be fine, but you don’t seem to be hearing them. It’s almost like you’re looking for this to be an issue on your hunt when it really doesn’t need to be. Your PH's email response was simple because he could really not care less. He's not worried about it so why are you?

A 150gr TSX at 2,900 fps is perfect, my man. Don’t overthink it!

you might consider staball6.5. It gives velocity with lower pressure, reasonable load density
and semi-temperature stable. From my reload file for 30-06.
As usual, work up from 1-1.5 grains lower.
