280 AI and H4831SC

Just for reference, with my 175gr berger load, I am getting around 125fps faster. Now, I'm not sure of any hunting scenario in the world where that would matter, but that's one of my favorite loads in my 280ai.
I have no doubt that it will outperform the std .280 Rem, but those loads above just arent very impressive.

I would say, just from a reloading standpoint, the brass does last a long time, even when loaded hot.

I still think the old 284 win is the way to go if you are just hunting, but that is the definition of a dying cartridge unfortunately.

The .284 was one of my dads favorites. Had a pre 64 rebarreled to that many years ago and my boy has it now and has used it in Africa twice. It works very well.
The load I worked up for it is Barnes 140gr Triple Shock with a good charge of 760 for just over 3000fps from a 22" bbl.

140gr mono at 3000fps will cover a hell of a lot of hunting.

I didn't own a chrono then but do now. I have a 26" barrel on that gun. Now that I'm back from Africa, I'll put the 35 Whelen away and start working on this load development with the 280 AI again
@hunting Gold
Shame, shame ,shame. Putting the Whelen away ain't on mate. Just because it did the job you can't retire it. It will do all the 280AI will.
Ha ha ha ha ha

TYVM! meant to specify SAF 160, you beat me to it.

Peterson's spec sheet sez 70.6. I haven't measured yet, but probably reliable info, considering it's Peterson.

Also, Partition 150 and Hornady GMX 150, if you don't mind.

@sgt_zim I’ve never owned a 280 or 280AI (but I surely would if a nice one presented itself!) but my son shoots a 7x64 and 7x65r. These are ballistic twins to the 280 and many people use the same starting loads when correct data is not available.

Do not discount the 140gr Barnes TTSX. I was always a heavy-for-caliber guy using partitions and I’m a reformed man. The 140gr Barnes TTSX is the same VOLUME as a lead-core as about a 175gr cup and core such as an a-frame or nosler partiition. But it is so light it shoots flatter. The only fault I can find with the 140gr TTSX in these guns is they do not open fast enough on deer sized game if you do not hit any bone or cartilage.

If I was going to load for something heavy for caliber that wasn’t the Barnes, I would go to the 160gr A-Frame. I’ve had amazing results with partitions and also unfortunate results, all based upon randomization of franging of the front of the partition. I‘d rather not leave my hunt results up to the spin of a wheel on how a bullet will open on a given day.

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
