I wanted a 28 ga for a long time and shold one i should have kept but never fired .This year i got the 28 ga bug again and bought 4 of them two ou rest semiautos .I really like sxs best and still want a good sxs 28 ga .I think one ou i have has 3 inch chambers too something new .I shot 20 ga most of my life and dabbled with 10 ga shotguns but they are too heavy to tote for miles .I got two 28s that are just over 5 pounds two just under 6 pounds .I am glad for ammoseek good deals on 28 ga shells .I got super deals on my 4 28 ga was like a good Christmas early .I wish my dad could have shot these for doves rabbits and quail .I hope the 28 ga becomes more popular .

I’m with you! 28s and wonderful. And a SxS are great!

I have one in a Citori with 26" barrels. Full / Mod chokes. 1986 production....

It's my favorite upland gun....

Mine is a Citori Ultra XS with 30 inch barrels. It’s light, fast swinging and easy to hit with. Kills doves dead with Winchester AA 3/4 ounce 8 shot.

I have hunted upland birds and doves for years with a 28ga, rarely use anything else. Use 1oz loads
in #5 shot and 7.5 or 8s for dove or quail.

We use to be able to shoot 15 grouse a day im Alaska now its just 5 .I used the 20 ga over 12 ga due to gun weight and recoil over weeks of hunting .I hope the 28 ga catches on in Alaska so there is more ammo to buy .I got hooked on my 5 pound kimber 6.5 cm for deer because it was way easier to tote a mile than my 264 win mag and 338 win mag .I checked into several ou 28 ga snatched two light weight ones the savage 555 has the most beautiful wood i have seen in the last 20 years on any gun.It takes a little bit to get use to how fast these light weight shotguns swing shooting .I hope to find some rabbits and grouse here in Ga .I had a rem 1148 28 ga and sold it during the ammo crunch because of no shells .I think its way better than the 410 for kids to start on also easier to hit with more shot .I am very glad to see even duck hunters and turkey hunters using the 28 ga .I use to drag aroind a 10 ga 11 pound shotgun for turkeys no more .I do want to try a reddot on these shotguns have not tried that either .Good shooting to all the 28 ga shooters and everyone else .

If you ever get a chance to try the Ruger Red Label with the true 28 ga frame, don't pass it by. In a similar fashion, check out the Benelli Ethos 28 ga semi auto. It happens to fit me well and is a real hoot.

Midway had a pretty good deal on case (250 rounds) lots of Fiocchi 28ga shells a little while back.
+1 on the Red Label.

I purchased a Browning Citori Gran Lightning about a year ago in 28ga used it on some skeet and a preserve quail hunt, If you don’t have a 28ga I suggest get one. Light, minimum recoil and fun to shoot all day

I have 28 ga. CZ Bobwhite. It’s my go to grouse and quail gun. Definitely my favorite shotgun to hunt with. Easy to carry. Nimble. Easy shooting.
I have been looking at one of the bobwhite
There very nice looking guns.
I have been thinking of get another shotgun 28 or 20
The 410 that I have it’s crazy to shoot now.
I saw a add this week on sell 29.99 a box from rule king.
I am glad I don’t bird hunt to much lol

My next firearm purchase will almost certainly be a 28ga…

I’ve always been a 20 and 12 guy.. but after handling a handful of 28’s this past year, I’m really liking the more svelte, fast handling, lightweight 28’s…

I love subguages and 28 is certainly one of my fav’s. I shoot 28 and 410 a lot upland hunting

I think they’re a great gun for the price point. Double triggers, straight stock, SxS. This gun was my saving grace during the COVID ammo shortage when all the 12ga and 20ga was sold out/out of stock. Multiple times I went to my local Cabelas to find the ammunition shelves empty except for 28ga shells.

Love my Browning 525 Field 28ga. It has taken many dove, chukar, and a few pheasant. I added a Benelli Ethos Cordoba Best 28ga a few years ago and it is a lot of fun as well but I do prefer the 525.

I love my Benelli SBEIII in 28 gauge. Using a duplex load of #5 Bismuth & #9 TSS I can get 300 pellets in a 3" shell and its awesome for ducks. Now if I can just find me a 28 gauge SXS for dove and quail I'll be set.

Ive been looking at the Dickinson Estate gun for a bit.. Im thinking that might be the direction I go..

Theyre reasonably affordable (about $1500 if you search for a bit.. you can easily find them for $1600).. turkish built, but from a factory known for turning out quality work for other well established companies (Webley and Scott and others)... and theyve gotten some really good reviews online...

Cabelas/Bass Pro are supposedly carrying them.. but Ive never seen one in my local Cabelas before... Ive thought about asking them about the Dickinson and seeing if they might consider getting one in that I could look at...

I was thinking the same thoughts.. I'd really like a 28 SxS for dove and quail.. but I dont want to spend a bloody fortune on a gun that I might take to the field twice a year..

The dickenson seems to have a good bit of the appeal of a much nicer (and much more expensive) traditional british SxS.. as long as its reliable, decently balanced, and shoots straight.. it might be an affordable option..

I have 12s, 16s, 20, 28 and .410 in the gun cabinet. The 28 gauge has a reputation as "punching above its weight class". I promise it does not. Physics does change at the sub-atomic level but it doesn't change at the sub-gauge level. My belief is that the 28 gauge's reputation is based on a couple of things.

First, 12, 16 and 20 gauge guns are overkill on most game birds so when someone switches to the 28 gauge, even if the 28 gauge is perfectly deadly for the particular quarry, the gun seems to kill just as well as the larger gauges.

The other reason is because people expect a 28 gauge to be between a 20 gauge and a .410. In fact, the .410 is a 67 gauge so the 28 is why higher than the mid-point of the two and seems to kill better than it should.

All this being said, the 28 gauge is perfectly suited to a lot of game birds especially when, whether we'd admit it or not, the 20 gauge is overkill on those same birds.

The only gauge in the gun cabinet I mentioned above that is not a double is the 28 (it's a Model 12). I'm waiting for the Browning 28 gauge Citori guns to come out with a 3" chamber and I'm going to have a double of every common gauge to chose from...

I obviously have an opinion and theory on the 3" 28 gauge....

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
