is a barrel length of 20" for a 375 just too short for comfort? I saw a full stocked rifle in that caliber. Weight was about 8.5lbs. Looked beautiful but I was thinking performance loss and muzzle blast make it less appealing.

As I have no life I just troll around looking at various 375's lol.

I think it would be okay, the velocity loss would not be huge. It will make the gun easier carrying in the brush. I was constantly getting tangled in the Limpopo with my long barreled gun.

I shoot a 20" 375 (and a 21 " 7mm Mag) the velocity loss int he 7 mag is present, yes, in a 375 not so much.
as stated in the brush (I used to live in AK) the short barrel is real handy.

I think the velocity loss would be minimal. If I'm not mistaken, the 375 Ruger is designed to perform the same out of a 20" as the H&H out of 24" barrel. And there is not much difference between the two in same length barrels.

P.S. wouldn't that be a great gun to put a silencer on?

..here is a pic of mine with a can on the noisy end. You will have no problems, 20 inches is fine for a .375, especially in thick bush..

pheroze got anyway of putting a photo of the rifle on here? no problem as far as i would be concerned, but then i like short barrels :)

I shoot a Ruger Guide Gun that is a 20" barrel in 416. This rifle has the muzzle break system that is removable if you prefer. Very accurate rifle.

I don't care for short barrels and full stocks,,,,but that is pretty neat looking! It might be a bit lively though!

Ok love the mannlicher stock And Iiron sights. Can't put a silencer on that. Even a scope could screw up the look. That gun might be worth just "having". To bad it does not have better wood and finish.

If you want an effective gun designed to be short and handy, in a caliber engineered to perform in a 20" barrel... get a ruger guide gun in 375 ruger. Only downfall is the less available ammo and it is not a classic. Cost might even be less.

I found a nice comb attachment at Cabelas a while back.

I was thinking that this gun would have to be a project. I think its basic weight is ok but it will probably require tweaking it to make it a better shooter. At a minimum a recoil pad. I am just concerned that the basic platform is manageable. If it is too "lively" then I will be taking on too much. Maybe some weight in the fore grip?

I like Mannlicher Stocks ,,I.m thinking that little guy would give you quite a thump

Would the recoil be greater because of the short barrel alone? I ask because on the Zastava website it lists the gun at 8.5lbs. When I compared that with other 375s it seemed about average (some were lighter and some heavier).

I am wondering if the recoil be less in a 8.5lbs rifle with a longer barrel? Would the 20" barrel jump more than a 24" with the same weight?

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another rifle but would love to see your rifle first, any way you could forward a pic or two?
Thanks,

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
