Practice Load for .416 Rem Mag

All that's required to paper patch is erasable bond typing paper wet when patching. Of course a powdered coated hard cast bullet would also work. But OP asked about using the .410 diameter pistol bullet

Practice Load for .416 Rem Mag

Erasable bond paper works wet it and paper patch, let dry and load. Hard cast also works well, but OP wanted to use the .410 pistol bullets

    458 Win & 404 Grain Shock Hammer

Norma cases, federal 215 primers, 85 grains of AA2230 @ COAL of 3.3830" which is as long as I can get in the magazine. This load is heavily compressed and very likely to be over the SAAMA MAP pressure of 62,000 PSI.

    416 Remington & 300 grain Shock Hammer

Bruce, I do not think the pressure is over what it should be. Double Tap loads the 300 grain TSX to 2920 FPS claimed. The Hammer has less bearing surface and once you get up to pressure you will get more speed. These mono metal bullets penetrates deep despite the difference in SD...

    .458 Barnes TSX 350, 450 or 500 gr

How often are all other factors equally?
  19. J

    .458 Barnes TSX 350, 450 or 500 gr

I wouldn't put all of my eggs in the SD basket. For example the 225 TSX is .358 caliber will out penetrate any and all lead core 250 grain higher SD bullets Bullet construction is much more important.
  20. J

    Less Bearing Surface

The Barnes weighs 225 grains, the Hammer Hunter is listed as 220 grain but actual weight is 222 grain. 3 grains is meaningless. The test rifle had a much shorter barrel than my 1885 Highwall which is 28". I can't do more than 2850 FPS with TSX, I can get 2911 with the Hammer Hunter bullet
  21. J

    Less Bearing Surface

Yes this is true, but you can add more powder and or a slightly faster powder and achieve more velocity Notice the 220 Hammer Hunter which actually weighs 222 gr has 1 grain more powder than the 225 TSX and a bit more speed with slightly less pressure

    Less Bearing Surface

There is a video on YouTube of one of the Hammer bullet owners shooting a Warthog with a 265 Hammer from a 338 Laupa and the petals and shank hit the ground 30 to 40 yards behind the animal and you can the the shank and petals hit the dirt

  27. J

    Less Bearing Surface

Hammer bullets have less bearing surface which allows them to be driven faster than other comparable bullets. Easy to see the difference in surface area This is a 225 TSX VS a 222 Hammer. 358 diameter

    Loads for .458 Winchester Magnum

As long as the compression isn't enough to bugle the case then good to go. Too fast of a burn rate powde would certainly be disastrous with enough to compression

    458 Win & 404 Grain Shock Hammer

Yes this bullet was created because of a gentleman in Kentucky specifically wanted a 404 grain with a good BC. He purchased enough that Hammer produced. Others such as myself have also purchased these bullets. The front blows of and the pieces follow the shank. A bullet that produces a...

OK, I figured out that 93 grains of 2000MR was at the base of the 350 TSX with lite compression. Loaded the 93 grains and recorded 2715 FPS, that's close enough and that bullet will take anything
