That is one of the biggest problems--the damned lame scream media. They cause nothing but panic and trouble with their half truths, innuendos and sensationalism. If they got their facts straight (like they are supposed to) and reported only the facts it would help greatly.That doesn't stroke the ego, though. They have to invent some new scheme to keep themselves in the limelight. Most of them should be quarantined at home with no means to lie to the people.
Irritates me more than just a little. This virus situation is bad enough without those asses spewing garbage. I shall now descend from my soapbox.

Actually I find our Canadian media has done a very competent job, and DO report the facts about this pandemic, as they are known. A few people still bitch and moan when the facts change, because the situation changes and knowledge increases. But on average most people here are quite satisfied with the reporting. Most of our news about the pandemic is coming direct from interviews with the health professionals with the most knowledge and experience, and a good grasp of the science. Our politicians are for the most part acting responsibly and with a unified voice, regardless of their party affiliations. Very few are playing politics with public health and safety. It would be tragic if your public media and political system is in such a poor state that you can't or won't believe them. That would be a mess. No wonder some people panic.

I'd say in the UK it's the opposite problem if anything.

There aren't suddenly any more people now than before and almost all food manufacturers are 'essential services' so factories and distribution remains open, but now people have stocked shelves and aren't going out.

We had a 2 week or so run on bog roll, but apart from that, the shelves have always been pretty much as normal and the supermarkets are now pretty quiet on the whole as people burn down their panic buying supplies.

Then there's the loss of all the 'eating out' market. As an example, I work in beer. There's no sport, no pubs, no restaurants and no clubs. We're not exactly struggling to meet demand and whilst our trade into supermarkets has picked up a little in consequence, it nowhere near covers the lost volumes we used to get into the 'on trade'. I expect many suppliers of other foods and beverages are also in the same place, both because of the limited oppurtunity to go out, and also over financial concerns from people who cannot currently work and may fear for their long term income.

The issue for the food industry isn' going to be keeping up with demand, it'll be making enough money to keep people in jobs, especially for smaller outlets.

Same here is SA. All food and associated support industries are deemed essential so continued supply isn’t an issue. The issue is the millions of poor people who don’t have an income to buy food...

Not much. Besides the production side, it is somewhat easier for the average person to horde a thousand rounds of 22lr than a thousand rolls of toilet paper. One of Newton's laws is somewhat applicable to bulk storage in confined spaces.

Gasoline in Utah is cheapest it has been in a decade anyway and maybe longer. Grocery stores have recovered with the exception of paper products and cleaning products. We also have early morning for senior shoppers who are greatest risk of catching the virus and limits of 2 on about everything. I took my kids through the drive thru at wendys yesterday just to break the monotony. We haved saved a ton of money by NOT eating out anymore. One word of caution-those baby wipes will clog your sewer pipes and unless they specify "flushable" then they aren't! Good luck to you all-and thanks to the many who are doing their best to keep stores stocked!

Food supplies in AK are fine and we are pretty much on the end of the supply chain relying on two ships a week from WA state. Supplies in rural AK, off the road network, will be lower due to barge service not being available until the ice goes out in the late spring. This is an annual condition, nothing to do with the pandemic.

The article is just trying to generate fear in an already stressed out population.
