New reloader

Welcome to the forum!(y) Your load sounds a little stiff with that heavier bullet. I imagine it wont hurt the rifle any if not fired all the time with that load, but must be working at max. The rifle wasn't really designed to shoot heavier than 300 gr bullets and while it will, its not ideal. The 95 is said be a 45000 CUP rifle, though these new ones are probably good for a bit beyond that.

Your load works up 4300 ft/lbs of energy which is well into .375 mag territory. Factory loads run much lower and for longevity of the rifle and the shooter;), I think its wise to stay a little closer to spec. Your buds 400 gr load is showing a lot less energy than yours, still past normal spec but reasonable, and some say getting the 95 to feed the heavier bullets can be a PITA.

I am on my third of these Miroku rifles and just now playing with the latest. My first one, which I did take to Africa preferred the Barnes Triple Shock ahead of about 56grs of Varget for a MV of around 2200fps, a little closer to std. Shot fine with that load and with that bullet I wouldn't be afraid to tackle a buffalo if needed.
Remember that TR shot lots of really big game with the standard load.

Welcome to the family and the forum Cheddar, you are in the right place!

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to AH @Cheddar. Nice to have you as part of our community. Enjoy the forum, it's very addicting!

Hey everybody, I've honestly never considered hunting in africa and got recommended this site by a friend I share reloading info with. We both own 1895s in .405 winchester and I thought I had the craziest load with a 350gr. bullet going 2350; however, when he pulled out his 400gr. going 2080 and said he got the load from a fella here I had to sign up.

I love levers and reloading for them, and I'm starting to love big bore levers especially.

Reloading is addictive. For that 405 Woodleigh bullets offer excellent hunting bullets for it along with Barnes. Those blue cast bullets give heaps of shooting for little money

Hey thanks for the advice. Yeah I'll definitely bring it back down. If only because my powder supply gets obliterated whenever I do decide to load. As for pressure signs, The most I've had is flattened primers and very slight cratering, but extraction is still buttery smooth. I'm content with it being my max load though and to put it on the back burner. As the recoil is not fun.

Yeah, thats actually what my m8 shoots, those woodleigh solids. They're a lot longer than my bullets though.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another rifle but would love to see your rifle first, any way you could forward a pic or two?
Thanks,

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
