Whitworth actions

My previous post stating that Interarms rifles were manufactured by BRNO is incorrect. They were in fact manufactured by Zastava as many have already indicated. The barreled actions no sights or wood were sent to different locations for completion / final assembly. Wentworth in Manchester England being one of them. However back to the original question. Since the 458 Lott requires a longer action, I'd start out with a CZ 550 in the 458 Lott to begin with and then have it tweaked by AHR. All in you should be in the $5 - 6 K range with a very good DG rifle.
 
I love my Zastavas, but I think you'd be stretching the friendship rechambering one to a 458Lott. Don't CZ sell a 458Lott? A factory built Lott would seem a better bet than a rechamber and maybe fiddly feeder to me. A Ruger No1 in 458Win Mag would be an easy conversion.

My take on the Whitworth is that it is actually slimmer, lighter, overall more compact and more "English traditional" looking than the CZ. Nicer wood on the stock as well. I also like that it is a pure Mauser copy not a "modified/improved" version like the CZ - and I am a huge, biased CZ die-hard fan. Just like the firing pin assembly and triggers on Mausers better than the ZKK/CZ 550 versions. This applies especially in .375 H&H. But as other suggested, for a .458 Lott, I'd go with the CZ550 or I would find ZKK 602 in .458 WM and have it re-chambered. My Whitworth needs no slicking up, it is slick from the get go. But then again, so are and were most of my Brno/CZ rifles. In general all actions get slicker with use.
 
I have some experience with the action but only on a smaller caliber. My dad owned a custom .270 built on an Interarms Mark X action. Originally sat on a Fajen mannlicher stock, but he switched to an early Bell and Carlson synthetic (still has the Fajen on hand). He always loved it. I took one or two whitetail with it before I was gifted my first deer rifle at 16. My little brother owns it now. I can say I always felt it was a smooth action. It never failed any of us. I would still love to have one similar to it built one day, maybe in .257 Roberts or something.
