Merkel, Kreighoff, and Chapuis 470 NE POCs

As of lately I’ve been looking really hard for a .470 nitro express for one of my DG hunts. I thought it would be possible to find a new Merkel, Chapuis, or Kreighoff for 15-16K from the research I’ve been doing but don’t see a lot of new prices advertised or new guns on gunsinternational. Does anyone have any points of contact or advice? Or any leads in the right direction in the US? Wouldn’t mind commissioning a new build but really I am looking for a bare bones no non sense double. Thanks for any help in advance!

The best deal in double rifle right now is chapuis iphisi in 450-400, but they only come in a couple times a year and not many. The best double rifle for the money is a Heym, k-gun are good to if you don’t mind the safety/cocker. Benelli USA is due for a shipment of double rifles from chapuis this or next week. I don’t know if they are all pre sold or not. I am waiting for the iphisi 450/400. You would have to go to the elan model for 470 ne, a bit more expansive and fancier.

Good to know! I’m looking at the Elan if I went with Chapuis, I’ve seen the Iphisi but I have no need for a 450/400 as I already have a 416 rigby and am looking to step up in something widely available and manageable with a little more oomph, heym from my understanding is no where near 15-16K but I’ve heard they are sweet!

There are a few Merkel 470s on the auction sites. One less than a few days ago, I just won a 140AE .470 on Gunbroker. If you are looking for brand new things are definitely slimmer. Gunsinternational has one or two Chapuis though around the 17 grand mark.

$15-16k for a new one is wishful thinking these days.

Chapuis Elan Classic .470s are landing around $18k when they show up. Krieghoffs new are $16-20k. Merkels are scarce and usually not that cheap either. New inventory is thin most sit on GunsInternational or go through specialist dealers.

Call JD Noblin Chapuis dealer, 405-822-1564 he’s had stock recently. Watch GunsInternational and GunBroker hard for used Merkels or Krieghoffs in the low to mid teens. Heym is often the smarter bare bones buy if you can find one.

Commissioning will cost more and take forever. Be patient or stretch the budget.

Gunbroker has a plain heym .470 for sale. A bit overpriced but ready now. Good luck finding the right gun for you.

A new Chapuis Elan in .470NE will run you about $17.5K at William Larkin Moore in Scottsdale, AZ. That is last year it would have, they may be a little more now. Dan who runs the shop now only gets a few in per year it seems, so he's just not needing to discount them much. I would give them a call if you're willing to spend a little more.

For Merkel just go on their US website and schedule a call with the folks. They are located in Bessemer Alabama.
