Ruger ceasing production of Hawkeye

But seriously what a gut punch

In my mind, Ruger is SA revolvers first, 22 auto loader pistols second, DA revolvers third, and everything else fourth. I love wheelguns and losing 1 and 3 means the death of Ruger.

I find it hard to believe the demand wasn’t there, I’ve been on a list for a 41 flat top since they were announced. Hawkeyes do not get any dust on them on shelves anywhere around here. Everything they make that is worth a shit is always allocated and hard to get. Production issues seem much more plausible to me. Along with their QC going the way of The Late Remington, much deeper issues than product demand.

Sad times when a big player threw the towel in…..

I wonder what their company income ratio is. Maybe they’re not sitting on a bunch of cash and they know the Ruger 77 needs a retool to be a good gun. I’ve had multiple rigger 77 that I’ve had to go back to the factory. I’ve never owned one of their double action pistols. In my mind, a Ruger 77 was always kind of a cheap rifle. It was always kind of everything that a Remington or a Winchester was not. I never had one that had a good barrel that would shoot well. I’ve owned three or four of the modern iteration in normal calibers.

I own 5 Rugers, a 22/45 pistol, a 10/22 carbine and a left handed M77 African in 375 Ruger and two #1s. All very practical tools. Thinking back, the first Ruger I dealt with was a 22 revolver my stepfather had. I don't recall the model, but Ruger made their mark with it. Anyway Ruger has always been smart, making practical firearms. Sometimes slightly out of the norm, but practical and profitable. So the Ruger American takes on the Remington 700 market now. I get it. The M77 is not so much of a thing now. Sad, but true.
All I can say is, I hope they persevere and produce well what works well.
Oh, and I have enough 375:Ruger brass to last me forever at this point. I ain't dumb.

I’ve been pretty lucky with getting accurate Hawkeyes. However, a stainless Hawkeye shouldn’t cost more than a Winchester Supergrade. Or even a standard Featherweight for that matter. Rugers have always been my “beater” rifles.

With them discontinuing the Hawkeye Series, I don't believe there are any commercially available American made control round feed rifles currently being manufactured anymore.

Truly atrocious times we live in.

Beretta owns about 10% of Ruger and has an agreement in place to purchase up to 25%.

Few years ago when they discontinued several models I noticed importer here had sale on many rifles for just a few hundred dollars .
I tried to ask them if they would import for me a nr 1 in other chambering beside the one they had in stock which was .450 BM or a bolt in some types of, no they couldn’t do that . Question is then what is point of importer if they don’t want to uphold it ?

And here I thought Ruger was in the business of making guns? But it turns out that just like every other business in America all they really care about is cutting costs to maximize profits.
These businesses when they start have totally different goals than when they are 75+ years old and run by totally different people in a different world.

I arrived in Tanzania this (way to early) morning with a RSM and a No 1. There were a couple of other hunters at customs with those plastic camo painted rifles, ugly as sin; you see one you see all kind'a things. I guess the 375 H&H remains the king of the medium bores.

Thank you for the LIKE on my old post. It brought back memories as I lost her a year and a half ago, at 18+ years.
