I recently purchase a Blaser barrel in 375H&H from Euro Optic. I had planned on giving it a quick clean and head to the range, but after 30 patches of hoppes #9 I gave up. This is my third Blaser barrel, the first two being 6.5x55 and 300 Wby, only a few swipes of solvent was required to get clean patches. Am I missing something or was this a used barrel? They offered me $200 off but if this barrel was used I don’t know if that’s worth it. I haven’t seen a barrel this dirty since my first mosin.

I've had the same experience. A new 416 Rem barrel in particular took a lot of cleaning when I got it. I really don't suspect any of mine were used though, considering the manufacture date. I would bet it is some combination of differences in bore texture or surface finish, bullet jacket material and powder types. I have a 9.3 barrel that fouls quickly and takes a lot to remove all the jacket fouling. Another of my 9.3 barrels accumulates fouling much slower. These are all Blaser barrels.

Sheesh, I have seen some dirty dirty new Blaser barrels but this one takes the cake.
I looked into your order, I see CS has set up a return for you to be exchanged with another example of this barrel from our inventory.
If you need anything else or have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out - I am always happy to help.

Euro Optics is the business.

I love them.

I don't open my account around my spouse, as I don't want to get a divorce off my buying history.

A new Blaser barrel in Germany is about 1500 Euros, but I think the actual price as most are on sale is closer to 1700 Euros this is for a 17mm (standard contour barrel) threaded 15x1. Basically $2080 bucks.
Semi-weights also threaded 17x1 are 1950 Euros I think Match barrels are the same.

Most 2nd hand r8 barrels are 1000-1300 Euros depending on the caliber.

Some times rifles that are not threaded and have sights are sold for under 800 Euros.

Looks like $1619 is as cheap as a new r8 barrel is from Euro Optics.

I know that sounds horrible, but ours are over $400 more than yours are here in Germany.

I am pretty happy on 2nd hand R8 barrels from about $800-1400. Anything more than that, I don't buy. Anything less than that I always believe something is wrong with it.

Sometimes you will find a close out deal on a semi-weight without threading with sights.

Blaser R8 Pro 2 stocks are 1300 Euros, which is kind of a steal right now.

Pro success stocks are 2800 for standard ones and leather ones are 3300.

Blaser charges about $650 to thread and proof one of their barrels. Most gunsmiths are scared of litigation and won't do it on their guns anymore.

Frankonia charges about $400 to thread and proof any other barrel but they won't do Blasers.

It is a 2025 barrel so can’t imagine it has been shot much. Just not what I was expecting from something new in box. But euro optic is helping out so we’ll get it figured out.

That’s wild, what’s the reason they’re more expensive where they’re made?

Not sure a lot of it has to do with our 19% sales tax. There’s also a volume situation American dealers that are huge can buy in volume and they get a lower percentage. The reason you can not really buy a Blaser part from a small dealer in Germany and get a good deal. You have to wait till Frankonia has something on sale, but then they only have limited items.

Yeah, it’s kind of funny because Blaser probably list 25 or 30 calibers. They only sell four or five calibers at most shops in Germany. 308 Winchester 30 06 300 Winchester 8 x 57 9.3 X62. There are a few 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5 X55 Swedish barrels. But not a ton.

@Tanner
You need something a bit better than that to clean it
In the past I have used butches bore shine on really coopered barrels. A bit of work but brings them up pristine. I was put on to this stuff by some benchrest boys.
Apart from the copper the bore looks half decent but it ain't a new barrel Josephine.

@Rimshot
Try loading CFE 223 in your 9.3. All but eliminates copper fouling while you shoot.

@Tanner
Give it a good clean it may turn out to be a real shooter, if not take it from there.
Sounds like after sale service is excellent.

But Bob, barrels should be coopered, filled with red wine till aged, then malt whiskey……
or did you mean coppered….
Sorry, had a long day driving around.
Ran over two eastern brown snakes on the way home, they were just crossing the dirt road.

My wife and I have been @EuroOptic customers for close to 10 years and the level of customer service @Tanner is receiving is what I’ve come to expect from them. Absolutely love those guys.

I have no doubt that EO will make it right. That said, I’ve never seen a “new” barrel from Blaser (or any other company) in that condition.

The Moisin comment gave me a chuckle.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
