Many of you have heard of Lon Paul- good news… he is alive and well. Lon is one of the OG safari rifle builders. Lon, raised with the likes of Jack Lott, Wally Johnson, Joe Coogan, at their family ranch, has forgotten more about rifles and Africa than most of us will ever learn. After losing his shop, tools and machinery to a devastating fire, Lon occasionally ramps up on a small scale for a spec Safari rifle project or friendly “Lon Paul tricks” favor- the latest being this beautiful little 9.3x62, for me. Look close and the bottom rifle.. it is a stock CZ American 550. The rifle on the top, with the “Lon Paul tricks”, started out like the plain jane CZ American 550. Lon added 3 position safety, trimmed/slimmed wood down, oil and re-checkered, color case hardening, straightened bolt, ebony forend, added sights, hood, ramp, barrel band… that is just the start! Here’s to the OG Safari rifle masters! Thanks Lon!

Not only one of the best for rifle work and building, but a really interesting and nice guy to talk with. I wish that fire would have never happened.

Be careful of this Wolfen guy. 2 messages. Both trying to sell something. He PM'ed me trying to sell something and he PM'ed my friend on here trying to sell something. Fishy.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob
