Rigby would like to know your caliber preference(s) for a Highland Stalker model without iron sights

What caliber(s) would you like to see offered in a Rigby Highland Stalker without iron sights?

Rigby is considering developing and offering a Highland Stalker model without iron sights and would greatly appreciate the opinion of the community on what calibers it would prefer in such a model. Thank you in advance for your contribution!
 
Interesting. Why would Rigby want to offer a stalking rifle without even the option of iron sights? Save a bit of money? With the increased popularity of present return-to-zero quick detach rings I think retaining the option of iron sights, at least the front sight, makes more sense. I primarily hunt with optics but in bad weather or very rough/steep terrain I will remove the scope and switch to irons.

If economy is the objective, I would suggest tapping the receiver for traditional scope bases, plug them with blind screws, and include a ramped brass bead front sight minus hood. If the front sight ramp is high enough, a quick detach ghost ring rear sight can be attached to rear scope base as needed. Or a red dot sight (which would not require front sight).

30-06 will always be tops for a stalking rifle.

I vote for the cartridge 300 Winchester Magnum, because in my opinion, it is well-suited for hunting light game to non-dangerous heavy game, for which this kind of Stalking Rifles are very well suited.

I own a David Lloyd rifle and for this reason I like such rifles.
 
Any of the long action chamberings would work on a rifle that is meant for optics.
 
If I’d want a non-iron sighted bolt action rifle, I don’t think I’d be looking at Rigby in the first place.

One of the main reasons previously not to have iron sights, would be for ease of adding a suppressor. But as far as I know, the highland stalkers already come with thread.
 
One can built very nice rifles without iron sights. It is all a matter of taste and style.

I think if you're looking at making a rifle set up for optics you should also consider some of the newer cartridges like 7 PRC or 300 PRC.

The reason to get a gun without sights is because it is set up to shoot things at much longer distances, that lends itself to cartridges designed for that.
 
Just had a successful back to back safari where the clients all used the .338wm . There were two groups of 4 so 8 hunters. I was quite surprised that they should choose this over the .3006 …
Personally i also favour the .338 and it is fast becoming my favourite plains game calibre. Makes sense to do it in the Stalker platform somce it will be for medium to longer shots on medium to heavy plains game. Anything smaller .275 Rigby. Will do.
 
I'd favour something that can stretch its legs personally (Voted 300WM) however for a classic rifle it seems a bit of a sin to not include Irons. Perhaps if it comes at a good cost savings, but if cost is a concern I'm not sure if a Rigby is what a fella is looking at anyways
 
I voted .300win, incredibly versatile as we’ve had members post pictures of everything from European Roe deer to Australian water buffalo with it.

Pairing a scoped .300Win with a double square bridge .416Rigby and/or a Shikari would have you well armed the world over.

They already have the Rigby Highland Stalker with iron sites. It’s the one out now. This would be one without them. So… there’s your option.

They already have the Rigby Highland Stalker available in 5 of those calibers with the irons, so you already have that option. These would be without.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
