I done did it now - Bought a Rigby.

Nice rifle. NOW, get out and exercise and bend that knee. Failure to do that and you will not be able to walk with that new rifle in any sort of brush.
By my 5th physio last fall, I was at 132 degrees of bend. You can do that too!

I do my exercises 3 times a day. Get out of the recliner and do a lap around the house every 2 hours. I am on day 10 after surgery. I hit 90 degree bend on day 8. Graduated from the Walker to the cane yesterday. I’m thinking (hoping?) I’m on track. I have a bear hunt in the swamps of Eastern North Carolina mid/end November.

Nicely done!!! Nothing like a new gorgeous rifle and a planned trip to Africa to encourage rehabilitation!!! Well done my friend!!!!!

on the left 7mm 175 grain on the right 140 grain 275HV.rigby. notice the bullet is longer and the reason the original rigby 7mm rifles throat was a bit deeper than the 275 chambering ,,they made a lighter bullet and called it 275HV

Instead of sitting in your recliner you could be doing some physical therapy and save yourself some money.
I was up walking the day after my knee replacement.
Nah stuff the therapy the Rigby is a better idea. You can always do therapy but you can't always get a nice rifle.

I have an in home physical therapist that comes 4 days a week. I have a set of exercises I have to do 3 times a day. I get up and walk a lap around the house every 2 hours. I have made very good progress. But I have slept in this dam recliner 14 nights now. I too was up walking the day after surgery, albeit with a walker. I am now using a cane.

As soon as I got home I was back sleeping in my bed with my darling wife.
A knee pillow that's moulded to go between the legs and supports the knee is a godsend. Allows for a good comfortable sleep.
My surgery was done with a mako robot assistance and recovery was quick. I was back driving my wife's auto car in three weeks and my stick shift a week later.

I have an old 1968 Rigby catalogue and they refer to their 7x57 offering with a heavier bullet and a cheaper style of “export” grade rifle . Their 275 branded rifles used the 140 HV round as you say . A nicer looking rifle and doubtless more expensive . My 7mm Mauser was set up for the heavier bullets and can shoot anything from 140 - 180 grain as you have pointed out .
 
Don't know if you can get the norma 7x57 norma 156 grn oryx ammo I suggest you try it...it's heaviest I can find here and works well in my new model m98...used it on sable downwards.....this is a bullet from an injured warthog I shot this morning...ass shot as was running away.....didn't go far after....

That rifle is perfection. Well done all around. Best of luck with the knee. I blew up my tibial plateau in an ATV accident in 2017 that involved multiple knee replacements, and revisions. You are right to keep it moving as much as possible. My advice....longer term after you finish PT, lots of stairs, leg extensions and light weight squats have helped a lot to build back my leg strength. Wishing you a rapid recovery!
 
Get the hornaday lock and load tool and you can determine exactly how far it is to the lands with any bullet you want. Then make informed decisions on which bullets will work wit the chamber your rifle currently has. It will also allow you to determine if long throat what is max overall length based on magazine length etc> Will also let you determine if has chamber with a short throat? again informed decision, for having a gunsmith use a throating reamer to lengthen for longer heavier bullets.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
