how do you pronounce this town name??? lol it was back to college weekend for students in Halifax (It must've been our Labor Day weekend) but it was a LOT of fun and perfect weather!!!

With that being said I do split my time during most of the months I’m not commercially fishing between logging and preparing for the following winter. This year has gone quite well harvested over an apple bin full of potatoes out of the garden. Got enough various other vegetables preserved in various manners to see us most of the way through the winter.

My firewood is about 90 percent done I’ve got half a tear worth of room left in the wood shed. The wood is blocked and split in the yard just got to take an evening and put it in. That’ll give me five cord under cover which is enough dry I’ll supplement it with another three cords or so of green when fishing slacks off over the winter.

Built a new meat cooler this last weekend and just got the wireing done on it today. My pigs are going to have a bad day Saturday morning. Also have 30 or so young roosters to butcher in the coming days.View attachment 789254

TY! I noticed, looking at the photo from the sidelines (not riding 100s Km/hr) that it was highlighted in brown and finally realized it was a Park! LOL Photo taken by my friend riding his overly-expensive, maintenance-intensive Ducati (SMH) while I called U-Haul down in Yarmouth to pre-order a box truck that he'd have to eventually use to take it to the border/ferry. LOL Honda: NO ISSUE! *A petrol station near that sign would be nice (as high performance bikes get <20 mpg!) LOL All good. Great times. We got his bike limping through the trip, but the going was SLOW after that. He left a $10K bike (at the time) in a hotel parking lot in Halifax, as we know anyone who stole it wouldn't get far quickly. LOL

*You could (take the A/C) and sell the "cooler" as a hunting blind later on in Fall!!! I'd like to come up for grouse and moose in the future!

14-15 lbs we caught some monsters when we first went off on the banks used to be a normal lobster out there was 4-5 pounds.

Lobstering ain’t much for stories it’s 30-40 days of grinding sleep deprivation abusing caffeine and tylonal and braving the North Atlantic in December. We’ve got basically a month to make the majority of our yearly income so we fish round the clock and through weather we really shouldnt be out in all while trapped on a 45ft boat with 3-4 other men. If your lucky you get home every couple days for a shower and to pick up some clean close if you need to catch a tide you use a little more speed stick and make do.

By January it’s all over and then we go once a week or so hoping the water will warm up early enough that we can grind out a few more profitable weeks in April or may before the end of the season.

It’s not glamorous it’s what we do to keep our families fed and a risk we take so that we can make a decent living without having to travel for work. Most of the fleet has little education and criminal records are common, it’s one of the last refuges where rough men can make a living on strength endurance and testicular fortitude.

If you’d of taken that exit and turned towards annopolis instead of keji you’d of come to the quaintest little country story/butcher shop/feed store/distilery/gas station/ gun store in the province.

Our moose has never been open to non residents and is closed completely now, the government seen fit to let the natives police their own hunt so they drove around in half tons with high seats mounted in the beds decimating the population until it was closed. That’s the sum total of their “stewardship of the land”

My deer stand is basically the same only on 6 foot stilts, carpeted and propane heated the only roughing it is the coffee in the blind is instant.

The flip side of that is I only work 60-100 days a year for the boat and the rest of the time is mine to do with as I please.

I can sit hear and enjoy this view and this fire with the wife sipping rye on a Tuesday and not have to answer to a boss tomorrow if I get up an hour late. Everything has its good and bad points.

Winter is a mere suggestion, even just a rumor, here along the Texas Gulf Coast.

With the way el nino is progressing, I'm expecting something similar to February of 2021.

A full 7.5 gallon bottle of propane, a 2-burner stove, cases of bottled water, and beans, rice, canned meat, and veggies, I've got more than enough to see us through even several weeks of no power. I have books to read, a couple sleeping bags rated down to -20, wool sweaters, and cold weather hunting gear if it comes to that.

"Cold" here is 15º F overnight and 25 - 30º during the day.

BEING that we only have 2 seasons , winter and summer here , Im as ready as I can be, got most of my wood hauled down from the mountains and at a stopping place putting ship lap siding on my bedroom ,which facing west south west gets hot , hot when its 102 degrees here, hoping that will insulate it enough to stay cooler.
Grabbed a special on propane at @ 1.79 a gal. so waiting on a delivery for my 1200 ,gallon tank. finally finished my rail ,pole fence so I can enjoy that, wont have to open any gates diving in with horses around, which is the one thing IM way behind on is training my colts.
We had a 2in. hail storm in July which melted so fast it washed out ruts in my drive but that can wait.

It’ll be still a few more months before I break out the winter shorts.
