Afternoon all. I found a 416 Taylor built on a 98 action, it says Waffenfabrik. No maker but I have not asked to pull it out of the stock. Bluing is maybe 30%, inside the barrel is clean and sharp. Stock is good looking, must have been replaced not to long ago. Wrap around checkering. Seems thin through the wrist and alittle light for the caliber. Trying to figure out if its worth the $1500 asking price. I did not take any pictures. What's your thoughts gentleman? It's a consignment so its possible I may be able to speak to the seller. Waffenfabrik is an arms maker in Bern, Switzerland, owned by the Swiss Government until 1999.

Chances are the action came from a military rifle. Being Swiss, it's probably a better than most Mauser Model 98 action.
I love the .416 Taylor. Almost the same velocity and energy as the .416 Rem and Rigby but less recoil in a standard lenght action. Other than not being a standardized cartridge, what's not to like?
I have a Taylor, two .416 Rems, and a lovely Heym .416 Rigby. The Taylor with a 21" barrel is short, fast handling, and I think, a carry all day rifle! My log lists everyday loads with 400 gr bullets at 2320 fps. Another 3" of barrel would probable boost it to near 2375 fps. Even a bull elephant isn't going to notice the difference.
Is the subject rifle worth $1,500? Photos would certainly help but most probably.

I’m a huge fan of the Taylor, mine is my avatar. The way the price of things are going up $1500.00 doesn’t sound out of line. Sounds like it only needs a new blueing, which used to be around $350.00 here in Ontario. If you don’t reload the only factory loaded ammo I know of is a 400gr solid by Norma. I believe a couple sponsors on here might have access to them.
Mine was built on a Parker Hale commercial Mauser action and makes sub inch groups at a hundred yards.

"Waffenfabrik" just means firearms manufacturer in German. There are a number of companies that use Waffenfabrik in the name, including Waffenfabrik Mauser.

No comment on the rifle itself but I hold the .416 Taylor in high regard. The Taylor and .416 Ruger are neck & neck ballistically with the Taylor having the advantage of best quality Norma properly headstamped component brass or simply necking down a .458 Win or other options. The .416 Ruger is excellent but component brass is single sourced by Hornady. Not certain but may be able to neck up .375 Ruger brass.
Appreciate the comments fellas. I have the green light to purchase from the Mrs, with no ire . She is all about it. Its just there and a cartridge I don't have. Being a handloading proposition is not a deal breaker at all.

Well, it is a custom gun, since the Taylor is a wildcat. That means components chosen purposely and hopefully installed skillfully.
I don't own one, but like everything I know about it on paper. Great cartridge in a standard action. Probably also not shot too much, as big bores kick.

The Taylor will do anything big game that you wish or need to do. Mine runs 2375-2390 with 400 gr pills. How many buffs have died from those exact ballistics in 404 J, 416 RM or 416 Rigby. Along with less powder and recoil.
