Allure of the Ruger No1

First group after bore sighting, load was just a random one so no load development and I have plenty of the 145 Speer GS, but what I discovered on checking the brass was a surprise, those line are from what I can only explain as chamber indentations, whether is is a rough reaming job or what, I dont know, any thoughts would be appreciated

Step 1 would be to feel the chamber, if you can get your pinkie in it, or possibly straighten a paper clip and ben a quarter inch L angle then softly rub the point in the chamber and see if you can feel any ridges. The for sure check would be to get a cast of the chamber so it could be checked visually and with a caliper.

will try the paper clip, as I have sausage fingers

Wow, that's a beautiful rifle, those rings shouldn't be there. Save a couple of fired cases in case you have to send it in. Fire a couple of factory loads to send in. Firearms manufacturers don't like handloads. I probably wouldn't say anything about handloads to Ruger!
That's not a bad group though!

Maybe someone tried to extract a separated case with a reamer or ? I have a hard time imagining the factory would let this pass inspection but maybe it happened. The fired case tells you what you need to know.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob
