For Sale: CZ 550 Magnum 375 H&H with full Matrix Upgrades

Well I made a very irresponsible rifle purchase this week -- 404 Jeff -- and am having to firesale everything I own to finance it. :) Even the dog isn't safe. (Lmk if you want a sweet yellow lab or an incorrigible Jack Russell.)

Great choice Garciamarquez1918,

For Africa, the 404 Jeffery is truly an iconic cartridge.
I predict that you will be happy with your purchase.
Also with that caliber, if hunting in roughly 80% or more of the foliage and geography conditions within several of the multiple African countries, the .404 will serve you well on most if not all species of so called “plains game”.
Plus, I am being redundant to say that it is by reputation, a real peach for buffalo.

Possible exceptions for smallish antelopes, might be (might be) springbok, klipspringer, mountain reedbok and especially vaal rehbok.
However, I expect that if you bring only the .404 for a mixed bag, you will keep the stew pot boiling, even on such open conditions, skittish little critters, no problem.
Except for whitetail deer in some farming areas and caribou in Alaska and Canada, here in N. America, unlike what we are used to at home, there are so many diversified and abundant animals in Africa almost swarming like flies at a picnic that, if you can’t stalk within a couple hundred paces of one, soon thereafter you will easily be able to stalk in close, on another within a very short time.

With your new .404, practice from standing over shooting sticks.
Practice, practice, practice and then practice some more.
You will run out of money before you run out of animals to shoot (way before).

Doggo out.

If I didn't have the literal same rifle coming from Matrix, I'd take out a loan and buy this rifle on principle alone.

how old is the Lab and does it hunt pheasants? lol

If it doesnt hunt pheasant, does it like laying on the couch and watching football?

Shot this rifle today. Great group but pretty far to the left -- project for the week adjust the iron sights.

Target loads, 50 yards, express sights, off sticks. Still need to bang on that rear sight a bit but it's getting there.

Kevin Robertson would be proud of the (necessary) improvements you had done to this rifle! Very nice. It should sell. But, does it come with a spiffy soft case??? :A Thumbs Up:

'Had 2 375s (at the same time for a nanosecond)...One was gifted by a retiring PH (it was beautiful but tired-Steyr-Mannlicher S/T w/ the heavy tropical bbl and spare rotary mag in the butt stock. I completely refurbished it, wasn't planning on selling it, but an exec for one of the largest precious metals companies operating in Zim wanted it because he was aware of its use in the bush wars decades back.) So, I agreed to part with it and bought an even better handling/shooting bolt my Son and happened upon in a Cabela's gun library on a trip. And this is where the story of your 404 (most of us are oh so familiar with) comes in...I wanted to "upgrade" to a 416, so my mind decided to buy the new 375 for my Son as well as the 416 for myself. It truly worked out (both are in one of my safes, as my Son knows what good care I take of guns!) "It's my Son's!" I don't own a .375. LOL What Velo Dog said above was spot-on. Never did I hear of any PH saying not to use a 375 (esp. w/ the bullet options today-Robertson was very keen to point out that some perform just like a 416.) And, with the much higher V and SD of the big 375 bullets (it penetrates much better!) Did you really "upgrade," or just get what you wanted? You can get a bit more performance w/ the 404 by handloading or buying custom handloads.

Ok does $3,495 move the needle for anybody? With $1,800 of recent work that puts the base value of the rifle at $1,695 which is cheeeeap guys.

Do you guys just want to pass the hat and buy this rifle together? I'm still waiting on mine to get back with improved work, and it was nowhere near this inexpensive! I got $50 on it! Who's in?? Maybe we buy raffle tickets for 50 bones a piece and do a random number selector? Maybe @rookhawk has one of those ping pong ball fan globe things in the Attic of Wonders?? We could definitely make this happen....

All kidding aside, I do not have one of those round ball lottery machines in my attic, but I believe our fearless site host Jerome has access to an internet random number generator. You could probably do a raffle with his approval. I think it would be fun if the first winner gets the rifle, and the runner up gets a year's gold supporter membership on the site and that part of the cost of the tickets goes to the house.

It looks like a perfect, reasonable cost, absolutely reliable do-all safari rifle.

Welp.....
That does it! @rookhawk and Jerome are throwing one heck of a raffle! $50 a pull! Get your foldin money out fellas!!!

I'm just an idiot that likes pretty guns, but I don't host raffles. I think we should add Jerome @AfricaHunting.com to the thread so he can decide if his site wants to have a raffle. :)

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob
