What was your first African Animal?

A blue wildebeest, taken this week. Fantastic long and challenging stalk to 120 yards and then a single shot tree braced with the 30-06.
 
Driving into campi on day one we came across fresh leopard tracks so I shot a very average impala for bait. 20 days and many baits later I took a leopard. That was many decades ago

My first African animal, taken way back in 1988, was a Cape buffalo, I don’t have a picture of it on my phone so I’m posting a picture of the leopard I took on the same hunt. I was fortunate to have taken this leopard after sitting just 45 minutes on my very first night sitting in a leopard blind.

The other picture is of me and my guide, Butch Coaton, who was guiding for Buffalo Range Safaris back then. He now guides for Roger Whittall Safaris and does some freelancing as well.

Lechwe in SA. Woke up to snow on the ground first day! Had 40 mph winds to boot. First time shooting an animal off sticks. Used the guides 3006 Tikka.

My first was an old sable bull, we had been stalking Gemsbok when the opportunity came on the sable in Limpopo.

My first was this Bohems zebra. He was coming into the waterhole we decided to enjoy our lunch after a failed morning tracking eland on my first day. A few hours later I was able to take my buffalo.
