Norma Oryx .30-06 Sprg 200Grn Performance

I did a search on AH for Norma Oryx performance .30-06 Sprg .200Grn , but nothing popped up.....
Anyone know of a post/thread ? or have real world experience? with that ammo option?

I have hunted Springbok and Impala with 165 grain in .308 win. Bullet performed well enough and I was able to group the shots well enough even on factory ammo
 
The 200gn Oryx is my go-to bullet for 30-06. I load it to a moderate 740 m/s, i.e. a little above 2400 f/s.

Taken moose, red stag, fallow, roe deer and badgers. It just works. No bullet recovered.

Not taken it to Africa, but I would trust it for plains game up to, and maybe including, eland.

It's obviously not a long-range-sniper-across-the-canyon type of load, but should be fine under 200. Get closer!
 
Appreciate all the responses.

I was optimistic reviews would be positive. I made the post because we want to give recommendations for hunters incase they need an alternative "off the shelf" loading with a heavier bullet. 180 & 190 are fairly common, 200+ not so much .....

Bought a box of it here by mistake..I like the 200 and 220 grn sako ammo in my 30-06......when I realised I went to what we use as a range to try it out....I was bit surprised as it was not far off firing my 300 win mag on the recoil side....checked the box and it said muzzle velocity was from memory just over 2800 fps....and the bullet hole was quite a bit higher than I was expecting, as it's zeroed with the sako ones which aren't quite as fast.....so now got to go buy some sako as my rifle likes it and works well at distances we shoot here on takeri.....but think it would be quite impressive with that bullet weight at that velocity
 
2,800fps with a 200gr. Quite a load for all round use if pointy.

Which one the Oryx or Lapua or both?
 
At '06 vel, I would suggest either would be fine.
Guys here used all manner, make and model of 220's on our moose through the years. I never heard of a bullet failure. Lots of guys did use 180gr. but those who used 220's, whether Rem., Winchester or Dominion/Imperial, would use no other ammo.
 
Bought some Norma oryx a couple months ago in 308 and 30-06. 308 has pretty bad cratering, don’t have that issue with other loads. I only have one 308 so I haven’t shot it out of any other rifles
 
Interesting. Obviously talking about factory ammo. The statement about "other" ammo is important. Some guns have too-large a firing pin hole. Yours on the other hand does not appear to.

I dunno 100% what Sako load in their factory ammo, but I suspect either their HammerHead or Super-Hammerhead bullets. 2800 f/s sounds a bit optimistic for 200gn in 30-06, though. The former is a simpler construction, cup-and-core-ish. The latter is ...partially bonded IIRC. I think that both bullets can be gotten in either 200 or 220 gns.

Oryx is a fully bonded bullet like the Accubond or similar.
