Again, I have no experience with them...

I owned one in 500 NE and it was an incredible shooter within one inch at 50 yards. Some are indeed horrible and some you get lucky with

Some were regulated by taking a dremel tool to the barrel muzzle. I believe these were sold by Cabelas. Since then, they’ve had a very poor reputation. Perhaps this is a little like the lingering bad reputation the 458 win mag had for some compressed ball powder loads shortly after it was introduced.

I’m not sure exactly what Ken Owen does to turn them from broke to bespoke. Certainly it’s more than load regulation, but I don’t know what.

I think you’ll get a lot of emotion on this, but few facts beyond the dremel tool episode.

I bought a Sabatti from Cabalas when they first came out. Had my choice of several and passed on 2 Dremel barrel ones. Shot it with Hornady factory ammo, cases expanded so much they cracked. If you held a unfired case next to a fired one it looked big and fat. Tried to resize a fired case took a good coat of Imperial Sizing Lube and two hands to resize. Called Cabelas and talked to the gun Sales Manager told him about the gun, he said bring the gun back and we can talk. Took the gun back he asked what i wanted to do, told him a refund. Cabelas cut a check for the full amount including sales Tax. It was the first and only gun that I had ever bought that was a piece of junk. Only thing it was good for was to look at, sure not to shoot. I was a gun dealer for 18 years I had never seen buying or trading such a piece of junk that could be very dangerous.

That day Cabalas removed all the Sabatti's from the shelves for sale

I spoke with Ken about the dremel muzzles…
“That’s a micro fraction of the rifles they built and blown way out of proportion!”

He said for the Sabatii’s he’s done(including mine) he starts with load development which is claims is the cure most of the time and regulation if needed.

He did regulation, load development, trigger job, recoil reducer, sights and milled rib for RMR.

My .470 was the first rifle he ever milled for a red dot sight.

I literally stumbled across it at McBrides guns in Austin and was able to buy it for the cost of Ken’s work.

As for all the bitching and moaning about them, I will trust the opinion of a man that can build a 4 bore from scratch as to the quality of the rifle.
 
Ken and JJ are the absolute best in my opinion and I have used both, 8 times with JJ

Ken would machine the muzzles back to true, recrown, and then remove/replace the regulation wedge. That required actual barrel regulation and use of ammo, but the results were very accurate rifles for very cheap money.

Keep in mind there was a time when you could get a 470NE Sabatti for $3500ish dollars due to the debacle.

Doesn't seem like much of a deal at 8k.
 
$8k should be for a new one otherwise yes a bit high
