I just grab the scope close to the mount so not putting so much lateral pressure on the scope tube…but folks have used these type of mounts decades and even with 1” tubes. The scope can take it so long as there isn’t an issue, like it rusted in place for the like. I always put a little great on the male end of the mount.
I take the scope off my Rigby with regularity, at times when traveling depending on room in the gun case, but also most the time when I shoot the rifle I do it as well just to ensure I’m practiced with the rifle shooting iron sights.
While it’s too hard to hand turn, it doesn’t require all that much force, especially once surfaces are mated. Don’t worry about harming that chunk of a scope.
