I have a Paul Jaeger custom rifle in 22-250 that I am looking to part with to pay for some other gun things. Very nice rifle seemingly made really well by Paul Jaeger. Has an extremely heavy bull/target barrel, very nice heavy stock with a nice grain pattern. Scope is a Lyman Super Targetspot 20x. Scope is clear other than two very small spots in the top portion of the scope. I haven’t tried to clean them so I’m not sure if it superficial or not, doesn’t affect the view through the scope. The scope adjustments still have good audible clicks and everything seems to be in good working order. Scope also has the original screw in scope caps. Online it seems like the scope on its own is worth a decent chunk of change. Not very familiar with them but has a modified Mauser safety that only travels around 45 degrees or so instead of rotating fully. It works with the scope on the rifle. Bolt is jeweled and very smooth running.

Prairie dog gun?
 
From the one photo showing it, the action appears t be a military Mauser. any info on year and location?

I have no idea there aren’t any military markings on the receiver or anything that I can see. Only markings that I can see without disassembling it is the “Paul Jaeger jenkinstown PA” and “22-250”
 
I’ll post some more close up photos of the action tonight to see if it helps ID it for anyone

Pulled the stock back enough to expose the marking FN 1951. So I’m guessing Belgian made commercial action correct?

I'm glad it is going to a good home. I strongly considered purchasing it but it would have upset my Highwall 22/30-30AI.
 
Looking forward to getting it. Looks like a fine rifle. And yes it will be PA bound. Have seen several Jaegers but don't remember seeing one with a bull barrel and the forearm configuration. You can't beat the FN action either. A German Gun Collectors Association member (Larry Schuknecht) put out a CD a couple of years ago on Paul Jaeger & family members with a lot of info and pictures. A few of my Jaegers are on that CD. If you are interested in his guns, you can't go wrong getting the CD. As far as I know, it is still available.
 
To tag along on this thread, I have a similar Jaeger- built rifle in .243. Sako L579 action, heavy taper-bullish bbl, beaver tail forend, Canjar single set trigger, single shot magazine configuration. I shot my share of north Texas prairie dogs with it. I can post more pictures if anyone is interested in it.

Fine looking rifle for sure. I bet those prairie dogs started shaking when they saw you coming with this rifle. Paul Jaeger made a fine rifle in their day. Have you ever hunted Aoudad on public land in Texas? I have been thinking about trying to plan a hunt possibly in the Black Gap WMA. Have to do a lot more research on the idea. Just getting started. George
 
That .243 is good when the wind picks up. The rifle came with a 15x Unertl but I swapped for a Leupold 15x fine crosshair and dot. I honestly need to spend more time dialing-in some different loads.

I've hunted Black Gap WMA a couple times over the years. It's wide open country, for sure. I'd recommend begin building points for the Devil's River Del Norte unlimited exotic hunt... lots and lots of Aoudad, Axis, whitetail and even elk. Camping onsite is kinda restrictive, but the hunting offered lots of shooting. They HATE the Aoudad out there. Our group shot several, along with Axis and a fine whitetail buck.

Another very good place is the Matador WMA, east of Lubbock. Huge whitetail, mulies and tons of pigs to shoot. Our group really enjoys that place.
