This hunt took place in the Municipal hunting grounds of a small village in eastern Spain, south of the Beceite area.
Temperature forecast was 21/11 Cº or 70/52 F, so we dicided to try and find a nice buck.
Hunt was organizaed by my good friend and Outfitter Jose Maria Aranda, a member of this Forum, local guide was David, not my first hunt with him either.
We started hunting by 7.30 PM, in the usual way, walking at mid slope in the hills, glassing down at the bottom of the valley, looking for the bucks exit the trees and come to graze on the grass, Roedeer and Ibex share the same habitat and we were pleased to see quitea few young Ibexes, which means the population is recovering from the past mange epidemic. We even saw a very large male, no less than Silver Medal, majestic
We kept at this until sundown, we had light until about 10 PM, and were ready to call it a day, when David spotted a buck at mid slope, about 500 meters away, out came the 80x spotting scope, and he said we have to try this one it´s good. We got in the car and drove to the other side of the vally where the distance was jut 200 meters.
We got out of the car and I was getting in position, when he said shoot now, he has seen us and is turning to go. I aimed at his rear left leg, and the Winchester 200 GR SP from my .338WM just flattened him.
As you can see, a very old animal, his face is white, and his teeth were worn down.
