MOZAMBIQUE: Mozambique TSALA HUNTING SAFARIS June 2026

Mark excellent bull. Congrats!! Enjoyed reading about the adventure!! Thanks for sharing and safe travels home. Well earned trophy!!

Ok guys. I have made it home and will finish

After we got to camp with the tusks and first load of meat, we had a quick meal and shower. Then I started packing up. About 1am I laid down till 5am. We were on the long rough road out about 6:30. Man is it rough and long. Brandon heard there was a new river barge working closer to the border crossing. After finding it, but no one there!
He finally got there attention as barge was on our side but they were living on other side of river. They came across on a small boat in the slow Africa fashion they move.
This barge I would say was in a little worse shape than the first we crossed on!!
They bailed water for awhile before even docking it so we could get on. Let’s say there was some real concern on my part going across!

We made it across and the race to border check station was on. We had maybe 25 min to make it by 4:00
We made it at 3:55, passports stamped so they had to finish gun paperwork in the other building. But! Branson had to run over to South Africa side to ask them politely to stay open until we got finished over on the Mozambique side. They agreed reluctantly.

We then drove on thru Kruger and about another hour to camp for the night.
What a nice camp for hot shower and sleep after 12 hours of travel.
Brandon grilled up some steaks and green salad and hot bread.

Welcome back, get some rest and hopefully you can kick that bug and feel better soon.

We left about 7:45 and made the drive on to Johannesburg. Brandon dropped me off Africa Sky about 1:30 pm. I stayed there overnight until depart DL201 the next night.

I wish I had not caught whatever the crap was on DL200 on way over. It would have made the hunt easier and better. I know I was not the only person sick when DL200 landed. There was a bug in the air on that plane.

Brandon, Danny and Kenas went above and beyond and worked there asses off to get me on the animals for the shape I was in. They took tracks a lot of times for me to stay at truck while they went after a bull to see if could catch up to and get look at.
We saw lots of Elephants, Buffalo and assorted PG. Tracks of Lion, Hyena. There was Leopard taken in an adjoining block.
I will definitely be back again to hunt with them.

Welcome home Mark. Go see a doc and have that cough taken care.

Grand Adventure! Congratulations on your success through all the trials and tribulations. I hope you recover once you are back stateside.

Great report too.

Glad you made it home safe. Hope you can get some rest and start to feel better.

Already have appointment with Dr this morning. See what’s up with this crap I caught on plane.

I’m really glad you got your bull. I’m sure that was a tough hunt on your PH too. It says a lot about their professionalism if they worked around you being sick and stayed professional the entire time. Thanks for the report.

Brandon Van Zyl of Tsala hunting Safaris is not just a great PH he's also a great person! He took me on as a client knowing I had some physical limitations due to my health. He went above and beyond to make sure I had great hunting opportunities. I'm proud to Call Brandon a friend!

Yes! Brandon came up with a plan a made it work. I was ready to concede about 2 days before hunt was over and just try hunt some PG. Brandon said no! We have an Elephant to hunt. He let the trackers do there work with me saving my strength until they said he was close enough for me to go in and try for him.
Brandon is a great PH and a friend now.

Glad you made it home. I’m not sure you would have caught the bug on your first flight because that doesn’t account for any incubation period for the bug to cause symptoms? Either way, I hope you’re on the mend. I just got better after a month of coughing from my Alaska trip. Had to get antibiotics and prednisone to clear my lungs. Hopefully you get better soon!

Tough safari but a great elephant. Pity he can't be imported but true with all Moz ellies and may still be the case with hippo. Kudos for hanging in there!

Understand your thinking Scott. All I know is started becoming sick about 9 hours into the flight. Also I was not the only one at the gun room coughing and hacking complaining getting sick on flight. Been Dr this morning
Steroid injection. Lungs and both were ears inflamed. X-rays of lungs done and blood work. Nasal swab. Waiting on results later today or tomorrow

Congrats on your elephant!!
Were you the first hunter in for elephant this season?

Could you have taken a buffalo if you were hunting them?
