Most of my true wilderness hunts have been by float plane access, or by canoe. Usually for moose. No limit to how far you go with those, you just need pick the right blue spot on the topographical map to head towards. But do try to shoot a moose close to the water. More than a km or two and the packing job is just too daunting. My longest moose packing job was 1 Km or so in a marsh/bog. That was enough.
My most physically extreme hunt was a 30 KM backpack trip between mountain ranges in the Yukon. I shot a Dall sheep 12 KM from the spike camp, then packed meat and cape back to camp with the able help of my guide and another companion, then next day employed a small ATV to carry some of the camp gear and all the meat as we hiked the 30 Km back to the place where the float plane could pick us up. I was 42 then, and in great shape. At 68 yers of age those type of hunts are behind me.
Usually, in northern Canada wilderness hunts there is a canoe, atv, snowmobile, or float plane involved at some point. Or horses. I love good mountain horses.
