Leadwood and neighboring areas, farms and ranches depending on what we are hunting. For example, red duiker are only found in a very few areas in Limpopo. Same with Sharpes grysbok.
 
We are 1 week out from landing in Joburg to get started on this group hunt. Dieter and I are excited to see months of planning turn into action! Ammo is loaded...bags are packed...stay tuned for my hunt report afterwards. Expect multiple crocs and buff to be taken along with PG and night critters. It's going to be an incredible trip!

One hole group with the 450 Rigby. Norma cases, FGM 215M primers, 107gr of H4350. Unfortunately the Jackwagons on the bench to my right decided my target was community property and put some nasty 6.5 Manbun holes in it.

I think these handloads should prove an adequate combination for Croc and Buff on this hunt.

By contrast, these factory loads were a disappointment.

Same 450 Rigby rifle with Grizzly factory loaded 450gr Barnes X bullets at an advertised 2450fps. Near 4 inch groups with the same buller. At $71.99 for 5 rounds, I won't be buying more of this ammo.

Standing, kneeling, sitting or prone, if Brian and I get within 100 yards of any giant prehistoric death lizards, he may end up going for a ride in the Bakkie. :D
 
Lizard won’t fit in the bakkie but by God he will fit in the front end loader!

I’m impressed. I couldn’t imagine shooting my 450 off a bench or on a croc.
 
Good luck to all, can’t wait to hear about the hunt. Ran into Dieter at the airport Two weeks ago while flying into Mozambique.

I find the recoil with these loads to be less than some lightweight mountain rifles in 300 Win.

On the other hand, the 550 grain bullets at 2600 are slightly uncomfortable. :sneaky:
 
Will be fun to follow along with you guys (while I am struggling along at work - it's OK - don't feel bad).

Yes, I believe at least one couple has not been before and none of the 5 have hunted DG until now. I think the DG goals are 3+ buff, 2 crocs and numerous PG. I will be going for a couple of buff in a different ranch after they leave for home.

I would like to be on your list for next year I think a group hunt is very interesting
 
I could not go this year due to planned knee surgery, But I would like to be considered next year as well.
 
If interested in next year, please send me a private DM with your name, cell number and email. Also your DG species of interest. Everything but ele and leopard are available on our ranches. We will be releasing the trip dates after this hunt is finished with my hunt report on this forum.

I’m headed to the airport and will see our guests this evening in Atlanta!
