At the end of april i started driving to Romania, from my place its a 2 day drive about 2000 km.
There was a positive weather change, when i got there spring has started and it was sunny and dry.
Marius and his guide came and we made a plan for the next days, i came many years in this area, so i could visualize the plan.
The next morning we got up and we left when it still was dark.
It did not take long before we saw the first roedeer, we try to stalk it, but some how he disappeared.
We drove some more miles, to stop at a valley, we went out to look and yes there was a roebuck, we stalked and came closer, the guide placed the shooting stick, and i put my rifle on it, i did not take long before it was in my crosshairs, and my first roebuck for 2026 was a fact.
We went to the next valley, and yes there was another buck, pff I remembered the valley from all the years before, i was never successful there, because it was hard to stalk, but this year that would change, soon we got into shooting distance, and again from the shooting stick i could shoot the roebuck.
This year is was after “selection” roebuck and not after the big thropy’s, but the first 2 roebucks where very nice thropy’s.
On his phone, Marius his guide keeps receiving pictures from trail cams, of roebuck, wildboar, and brown bear.
The next days we where after an abnormal, the guide says in this area should be an unicorn abnormal, we saw some thropy roebuck, but not the unicorn.
The next days we we tried another area, i we got some roebucks, at one place we where observing a roebuck, then suddenly another abnormal roebuck unicorn walked about 10 mtr from we where standing with the car.
We waited some time to not to spooke him off, and then try to find him, wich was not easy, the place was full with roedeer, we saw him with a female, just before they dissapear in the cover, but thats hunting.
After a few days we went to the area where the guide said this is the area where had had seen an unicorn many time, and he was right, we spotted him and mange to stalk him, after the shot it walked for a meter or 6 and dropped, pff my first unicorn.
Its still a mystery what has caused it, it must have been something at the start of the grow of the antlers.
In the next days i managed to get some more selection roebucks and after more as an week it was time to return home.
Its was a successful week, great company and great food, its hard to wait for september, for the reddeer rut.
Thanks Marius @HUNTROMANIA for this trip, another memorable moment not to to forget.

Nicely done and congratulations! I hunted with HuntRomania a few years ago and had a great adventure as well. Red Stag, Roe and wild boar.

Waidmannsheil ! Some interestings bucks. I am guessing from the name 'DutchTrapper' that you live in The Netherlands. Any hunting there at all nowadays ? Looks like Romania was a good trip. Thanks for sharing.

Waidmannsdank Charlie,

Almost right, i am from Dutch origin, but i live in Germany, in Niedersachsen 2 km from the Netherlands.
I hunt in Germany and Holland, in the Netherlands, at least the province where i hunt, there are many options, but its no longer called hunting, but wildlife management, population control, damage control etc
