Not rode hard, but certainly put up wet

I like rifles with character. A 1926/27 10.75x68 Mauser imported by Chas. Heyer. A previous owner must have put this rifle away in a damp case. A lot of heavy pitting on the outside, but fortunately the bore is in good condition and zero issues with the stock. To me, luckily it wasn’t blued over. I like longer barrels and heavy for caliber rifles. This one comes in at 8lbs even and a 27-1/2” barrel. Would be fun to get this out this fall once I find 5744 load data. It certainly has been there, would love to know its history. Thought I’d share.

Grand old rifle & nice pick up !

That sure is a barrel & a half isn’t it.

Most likely got damp when it was stashed somewhere to hide it from authorities on law changes in its home country or worse when it was stolen ?

Great rifle and caliber!
Perfect for the bushveld with handloads.
My late Grandfather owned one just like this.....used it on buffalo and PG till he passed away.
I still regret not being able to trace and buy it.

@Kynoch2015
It might be a bit rough around the edges but with a bit of TLC it will come up a treat.

Where did you find this rifle?

I’ve been wanting a 10.75x68 to hunt pigs with but didn’t want to drop the kind of cash I had been seeing with auction prices; like others said rifles with character are just plain interesting.

Dave, I could use both of them if still available. I just picked up a new .22 mag and a .22 pump that they would be perfect on.

Dan who is C. W. Richter? He seems to not be a fan of myself!
