I just went through the process of downsizing and selling a large collection of Africa, Asia and American mounts.
Heartbreaking but needed.
Sold the lot through an auction service in Ft. Worth, TX.
They did an outstanding job and I got a lot more than I ever imagined.

If you need this service, I would recomment them - www.westernsportsman.com

They were honest and paid very quick.

PM me if you need info.

PS - I do not work for them nor rep them. I just used their services.

I am familiar with some of your hunts, you had some fantastic trophies.

I referred an old friends Widow to them and they sent transport to the house in PA, took everything down, loaded up and took it to Ft. Worth - pretty seamless. They run a very good business and offer an invaluable service.

Agree!!! He has carried us with him many times on some incredible hunts!!! While I am sure it was hard to do you will always have awesome memories of your experiences !!!

Thanks for Posting Ross….
We all are or will be facing this… I have some 20 mounts or more with Euros all sitting in a storage room and also heading on some future safaris where some game would be definite “upgrades” but where do you put any of it…
Glad to hear of a great experience

I’m leaving it up to my kids, mounts are easy, packing all the bullets out are gonna be the issue! Lol. Glad you downsized the way you wanted to Sir!

My problem is bulk of the collection is waterfowl. And not legally able to sell them.

Will see if any of my 3 boys end up keeping them

That would be hard, lots of memories.

What did you keep?

If you had to do it all over again would you do it differently, less taxidermy more euros?

Ross ! This is devastating news your selling trophies now after you sold so many guns & binocs & stuff ??!!

Now I am going to worry about this for the rest of the week ! Plus no hunting reports for a while ?!

You are not doing an "Ivan Carter" on us & switching to the other side ??

ps the link takes me to "Outdoor Canada" ??

This is a problem many of us will be facing one of these days. I’ve largely stopped mounting trophies, other than a few special animals. I’ve still got room for more, but not a lot more. The bigger issue is the cost of shipping & taxidermy compared to spending that money doing more hunting. Also, I don’t want to over burden my children with having to deal with too many mounts after I die.

What does this mean....I don't know the guy, talked to him at a show once or twice,....never could figure out what his deal was. Then a buddy informed me that anything is possible when you marry into a super-rich family, and it all kinda made sense.

I have their website bookmarked and follow their auctions. It's amazing how much the bidding frenzy impacts the prices.

What did Ivan Carter do?

What did Ivan Carter do?

Really nothing. He still promotes conservation through hunting and leads an aggressive anti poaching campaign. What has irritated some is his effort to get hunters to clean up their social media, more focus on conservation and education and less focus on dead critters. Although I am guilty of plenty of trophy pics, I do see his point.

All is good on my end, just seeing the end a bit closer than before, focusing on what is important, taking the kids and grandkids and not getting too burdened with anything but pics.

I am keeping the mounts with stories behind them, as well as a few rifles. Planning more hunts and have two hunt report in the works, so I will post those in the not too distant future.

Finding that what I really like is tracking and being "there". Shooting is fun and exciting, but not why I go anymore.

Gene Hill wrote a great piece on Africa many years ago. I will post it soon.

I am still "new" in my African journey. I have been once, and my second trip is booked. At this point, I still can't imagine doing Africa without doing taxidermy. Problem is we are moving to Florida and seriously downsizing. I get one 12x12 room and one half the of the 2-car garage. At some point I will probably come to my senses and realize it's not about the taxidermy. I'm just not there yet.

See you are from Denmark - see quite a few Danes where I stalk in Scotland - great hunters.
The Harkilia stuff works well in Africa - I have a bit for use here in UK.
I am again looking for 600 Nitro dies preferably RCBS 1 inch. The set I purchased previously are 1 1/2 inch and do not fit my die. Another member has graciously taken them off my hands. If anyone happens to have a set of 600 Nitro Dies that will fit my Rockchucker Supreme RCBS press, please shoot me a message and thanks in advance for any assistance you may have to offer!
I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.
