I am looking seriously at a nice early Dakota Model 10 built by Don Allen. It is in great condition. Very svelte package with a light contour barrel. Nice but not exhibition wood and matte finish. Nothing overly fancy…just classy and chambered in 6.5x57.

I can’t find any recent sold comparables. I just know I like the rifle but don’t want to get into it wrong. I would have to sell a few to justify this one so want to be a little educated at least.

Any rough ballparks on what used Dakota 10s bring?

Thanks in advance.

Pics?

Firing pins can break without snap caps. That is the only thing I would double check.

I paid $7500 for this gun in 270 , including Swarovski scope on guns international 60 days ago

There are two 6.5x57's the 6.5x57R and the 6.5x57 non rimmed.

Doesn't really matter, but brass could be an issue for the non-rimmed, here in Germany it wouldn't matter, but in America I believe the R is more common.

Seller and Bellot probably make ammo for both?

RWS does, but I don't know if you can get RWS ammo in the USA anymore.

In the old Don and Norma days they would let you do whatever caliber you wanted.

Remington Custom Shop gutted that.

I have seen them in weird things like 7x65R, 22 PPC, and 6mm BR.

Look on Gunsinternational.com. There is a category specifically for the Dakota 10.

Then, go to Parkwestarms.com and you can price one out under the build tab and see what a new one would cost.

I'd suggest that #10s are selling for about 50-75% of a new Parkwest.

I don't know if all of Don Allen's rifles held barrels machined by CP Donnelly, but CP made a bunch of barrels for Don. After Don's passing, the relationship went south.

What Musk ox said! They seem fine but will not fire. Just be careful. I own several. $5k would be a good price.

I have a Gibbs chambered in 6.5x57R. I was able to source some RWS brass. Great little deer rifle. You will enjoy it.

Pricing is very dependent on extras; wood quality etc. a plain Jane 5-6k

The value could be as low as $3500 and as high as $25,000. That vague range is all you can get when you don't provide pictures.

Every one of them was custom ordered.

Examples:

Does it have a quarter rib and express sights? +$2000
Does it have exhibition / XXX English or French walnut? +$2000
Does it have ebony forend tip?
Does it have Ken Howell inletted sling studs?
Does it have a skeletonized butt plate?
Is it longer LOP than 13-7/8"?
Does it have a 23" barrel?
Is it color case hardened?
Does it have a hinged grip cap?
Does it have wrap-around checkering?
Does it have fleur de lis checkering?
Does it have gold/platinum border engraving?
Does have engraving?
Does it have box and papers?

Those are just some of the things that effect price. I sold my spare Dakota 10 in 7x57 with a z6 optic and oak and leather case for five figures, its worth more than that today. But it had all the right stuff, but was not engraved.

I've seen base-model varieties with ugly wood, blued finish, and common calibers like 270WM fetch less than $3k.

Congrats ! Very clean lines. Are you happy with the 1.5” group ?

I have no qualms about 1.5” 5-shot groups on hunting rifles. Especially lightweight ones with a forend that contacts the barrel. That was shot with ammo I did not build and is with a bullet I doubt I will hunt with. More shooting to come before it goes hunting.

I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.

Hello,
I might be able to help you out depending on how many you need. I could probably spare 50-75 .285g A-Frames. They are factory pulls that look like new. Let me know if you are still looking,
Thanks,
Gary
