Puma White Hunter Knife

The Puma looks "macho" but it's an embellished skinner....definitely a looker and one I personally love. In practical application though, I always use a Buck folding knife I bought back in 1972, and an old 1982 Benchmark pocket knife I actually used to field dress a Golden Wildebeest. Knives are like guns and Lays potato chips...."you just can't have one"

Does anyone actually use a Puma White Hunter?

It is such an unusual design it intrigues me, but is not a design that I particularly understand.

Just curious.

A mate has one. To both him and me not real practical as a Skinner but a good camp knife.
We both found the blade harder than the jobs of hell and a bitch to sharpen but when it was sharp it stayed sharp.

I always wanted one and finally purchased one in an auction. I have not used it yet, but I will carry it on my belt and try it.
@ThreeJacks
They can command stupid high prices as well.
Up to over $2,300 for a 80s vintage one

I have one and it is great for heavy duty work on dangerous vegetables :A Outta:

I have sharpened the blunt spine and it is great for splitting kindling when camping without buggering up the main edge.
Quite a usefull tool in fairness. Readily pressed into service for skinning but not a fine enough point for use as a general Deer knife especially on the smaller deer we have in England (IMO) The serrated bit makes short work of splitting the sternum but not really pointy enough for dealing with the rear end. So another knife needs carrying for that - which somewhat negates its use as a hunting knife for my purposes.

Hi,

The first time I saw the Puma WH in the late sixties I fell in love with it! For many years was one of my dreams, it looks great and the quality was outstanding !!! It was until I had a friend´s one in my hands and tried to use it....
I see its design as a try for a do-it-all knife. But I see as a not too useful knife.
PUMA designs and made some real beautys and very practical knives!
I will show some of my favorites!

By the way in the late ´80s the official PUMA representative here, imported some finished blades only, without the handle nor the sheat. So I bought one PUMA Outdoor´s blade and a close friend of mine, a part time knife maker, customized that one for me, modifying somewhat the blade itself and the handle. Ends as one of my favorite knives!
