My apologies if someone posted this earlier. ('Did try a Search but it was taking forever!)

Anyone who knows about Art Alphin knows he was an expert in ballistics, guns, aspects of military action, and writing about same! Good Stuff, Art!! I'll take your good stuff back to Africa oneday, in your honor...

Krish is selling one of his finest creations on here (dedicated to Capstick by Art.)

His obituary is quite interesting. I met Art Alpin in July of 1986, on our way to Zimbabwe. We were on the same flight and had a good conversation about dangerous game hunting. If memory serves me, he was taking some of his rifles to Zim Parks & Wildlife for their use. I had no idea about his military career and accomplishments as I don’t recall him mentioning anything about it at all. He was truly a leader in the firearms industry.

I was a big admirer of A-Square Ammunition which we used on our first African Safari. LtCol Alphin was a very accomplished individual who made some notable contributions in the ammunition and firearms industry. R.I.P

A loss for the firearms and hunting community. My Hannibal rifle has taught me firsthand what difference a proper fitting rifle makes and proven that his stock design can tame the wildest of cartridges. His knowledge will be missed but fortunate he shared some of it in his writings.

I believe his wife left this Earth many years before him. She wrote children's books but he'd proofread, assist w/ publishing etc.
I am so sorry to read that. Many of us in Europe greatly appreciated him and his work.

My condolences to his family.

Anyone who really needs to brush up on cartridge and bullet selection, effective ranges, V and E for handloads in a given caliber (and there are some new ones since Art that'll do the same-and more in some instances,) but he was like Roy Weatherby's adopted child in that many of his quotes read like "...you're in country for a week and you have a 600 yd shot on a Mtn. Nyala! Why not be prepared before you have to go back to your corporate job?" LOL I don't care about that anymore, but I Definitely speak ALL of Art's language! Read Any Shot You Want, for starters. Weatherby and bullet mfrs. asked him to evaluate their products on his 70s-80s African hunts! He did precisely what I did (Business Trip-lol his being Military Advisor in Zim, Moz, etc. AND hunting there while on R&R AND developing his own cartridges, whilst simultaneously getting a PILE of wildcats SAAMI-approved-and factory ammo. exists today, STILL! TY Art!!! I wanted to call him, discuss a few ideas, but mainly take him out to dinner while visiting friends/relatives in the area (he was later moved down to FL from MT) but uncharacteristically me, I was too consumed in my own business and to a lesser degree some correctable health challenges and I just didin't prioritize what can now never happen. Life IS finite. LIVE IT! Now gauging Mom/Dad's families, lol, I've got anywhere between 20-40 years left in me. I'll make the best of it (after work in '26). I'll catch up with you later, Art!

Why the F should it take 6 tries on a f'n "African Hunting" website to load up damn photos of a guy that helped put YOU on the map! Get your S fixed.

I didn’t have any trouble this morning…. Non-paying members shouldn’t complain about anything. IMHO

it worked that time-you just have to "Live with Passion!" LOL Art Alphin must wait 197 seconds to retry uploading his pre-death photo...AH has become a waste of people's TIME! Rate limiting or running on thin air??

IF we've paid $100Ks ($Ms) for safaris, would the group say we've PAID? LMAO There's no other "FREE" website that slows potential hunters down, excepting Meta Platforms that has ZERO interest in same.

There's a group that's thinking of starting a new African hunting website sans the wasting our limited lifespans on it... :p No clickbait-just the Facts!

Passionate about HUNTING and sharing my knowledge of rifles, ballistics, handloading, shooting, hunting techniques, etc. but my time is limited as a business owner and father/grandfather that dedicates a lot of time to helping elders at their farms...THIS is the slowest website, EVER. "We'll speed it up IF you PAY!" -My ISP LOL No thanks! (have cable/fiber optic internet-it's fast. NYC folks said it's faster than theirs. 'Not the ISP!)

I'll take the Vortex scope cover you have listed in the Pay it Forward thread.
