Most Coveted Animal in Africa?

I love different animals to hunt but that said I love different experiences in hunting. So I'm not especially looking for a specific animal as for specific terrains and experiences, different cultures and countries. I love to do a true rainforest hunt, a desert hunt etc.

LDE and Bongo

Please don’t kill me verbally for asking this but is leopard hunting fun? I have been told by more than one guy way more experienced than me that it is boring. Sitting in a dark blind for hours unable to move or talk or read or cough or sneeze or fart sounds incredibly — well, boring. I understand the 30 seconds before and the 15 minutes after the shot are exhilarating but the rest of the time spent sitting and waiting is the part that concerns me. What do the rest of you think? I’m heading to Limpopo this summer for first buff, after that I don’t know. Maybe lion or croc. HELP!

Sable for me. Had a chance a a magnificent one at Lemco in Zimbabwe with HHK in 2000, but the PH said, it wasn't on my list. We had some issues after that. I had a heart to heart with him,:) and everything else worked out.

Leopard hunting is the ultimate chess match. You first have to put the effort out to shoot your bait animals, then drive hours and hours for days at a time putting out bait, checking on bait, then once a leopard comes to the bait, you then have to build a blind. At that point the sitting and waiting commences. Luckily for me, I only sat a total of 45 minutes for my leopard, others have sat out many nights and many safaris to get one. It's not for everyone, but there are those who find leopard hunting addictive. If you decide to hunt a wild lion, it will be the same process.

I'm in this camp. For me it is more about where do I want to hunt and what experience do I want to have. From that perspective Niassa and Tanzania are very high on my list.

I have buffalo (this year) and elephant (2028) booked. After that if I had to choose by species, lesser kudu and mountain nyala are really intriguing.

What Andrew62 said-but also, sitting over a well laid chess board the anticipation is intoxication for me. Plus I love the birds and bugs and things around th blind. I do have a tough time sitting still tho! Love the big cats!

Lord Derby Eland is by far at the top of my list followed by the other species of eland.

Next - elephant

Most coveted animals, in no particular order, include “The Big Three” - Bongo, Lord Derby Eland, & Mountain Nyala.

Honorable mention coveted animals - Forest Elephant, Leopard, and Forest Sitatunga.

Good luck and happy hunting to all, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

One of my favorite trophies is zebra. If it were still legal, I’d really enjoy a hunt for an old Grévy’s zebra. Probably not a very common answer, but it would be quite the hunt.

Most Coveted would be ones you cannot realistically expect to kill- I’d venture these would be up there:

Wild Black Rhino

Mountain Gorilla

And “extinct” Northern White Rhino

My numbers 1&2 I’m going after in 36 days. Leopard (my absolute favorite African animal) and an old deeply curled, hard-bossed Dugga-boy.

My next safari in ‘28 will be for my new most coveted:

1) Bull Elephant (booked for ‘28) and

2) Cheetah (after I decide which outfit I’m booking with)

IS THERE an eland "slam"?

BTW, if Okapi cannot be legally hunted, how about a nice FOREST SITATUNGA?!

See you are from Denmark - see quite a few Danes where I stalk in Scotland - great hunters.
The Harkilia stuff works well in Africa - I have a bit for use here in UK.
I am again looking for 600 Nitro dies preferably RCBS 1 inch. The set I purchased previously are 1 1/2 inch and do not fit my die. Another member has graciously taken them off my hands. If anyone happens to have a set of 600 Nitro Dies that will fit my Rockchucker Supreme RCBS press, please shoot me a message and thanks in advance for any assistance you may have to offer!
I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.
