Watch Your Booked Flights!

I just checked my Delta flights and thankfully I'm still good, no changes recently. Flying in May so maybe the sooner flights aren't affected? Fingers crossed it stays that way!
Mine is also in May and also has not changed since February booking

These are traumatic times. I have a safari booked for August and I will be surprised if I am able to make it. Actually, I'll be surprised if the whole world doesn't go up in flames by then. A special thank you to those who voted Republican in 2024. Actually, there a few sensible GOP in D.C. Two I think ... and both refuse to run again this fall. Don't blame the airlines. Blame those who made their mark at the ballot box.
STOP IT. I VOTED REPLUBICAN AND WILL DO IT AGAIN. WE ARE FLYING EMIRATES VIA DUBAI IN MAY, NOT SCARED. BUT YOU SHOULD PROBABLY CANCEL YOUR AUGUST SAFARI AND HIDE UNDER THE BEDSHEETS TILL THE WORLD RETURNS TO WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE IT.

Any of you guys ever rented a Toyota in Namibia to drive to your Safari. I was wondering about the safety and feasibility of a road trip.

These issues aren’t related to flight congestion or cancellations of runs that go through the Middle East by the way, these USA based carriers are cancelling flights that are low-margin. The major US carriers did not hedge their fuel-cost risks and they are now calculating just how much of a financial hit they will take honoring their flights.

Their goal now is to cancel as many flights as possible, then create new flights priced 2x-3x the price so they can CYA themselves.

This info was covered a few days ago on Zero Hedge. The US airlines suck and they have shady business principles.
Can’t argue with any of that. I posted something similar a few months ago and I’m certain many rolled their eyes and dismissed the post. Glad to see at least a few have woken up to the facts about airlines, especially US domestics. For whatever reason known only to them and their profit algorithms, they couldn’t care less about passengers. They couldn’t care less about screwing up the schedules of multiple connections downstream of a plane load of passengers because they know the seats on the next plane will be filled by a different sub population of passengers. Smaller markets can be even worse because there may be zero business competition with only a single carrier.

Got word today as well, just earlier departure times so longer layover waiting on Jburg flight. More time in a lounge but if that us the worst of it still worth the price of admission.

One AH member here told me this last Monday that he was attempting to book a flight on Qatar for his Safari in September to Zim and the fare for a Q suite would be $12,500! I think he had a coronary! LOL
When I canceled my Qatar flight and rebooked with Delta (after the ME issues) it was $37,000 round trip for Delta One. Of the 11 Seats still open, 6 are in Delta One.
Comfort Plus was $4k, Premium Economy was almost $6k and Economy was $1750.

No change to DL200 for May 6 departure.

I’m driving up to ATL and staying overnight in a hotel on the 5th then checking in early on the 6th around 12- 1pm. (may as well get my money’s worth out of the hotel). I originally did this to have a romantic dinner night with my wife when I made my plans. Now, it looks like the difficulties are mostly affecting domestic travel and not so much international? For as much as I hate Atlanta, I’m glad I decided to make the 4 hour drive and spend on dinner and a hotel instead of a connection out of Tallahassee.
Try Poor Calvin’s in Atlanta with the wife. The gf said strip clubs and whore houses are ok, but if she finds out I went there without her I’m dead.

Also sad to see that Duffy seems to be either in over his head or tone deaf in sorting out the chronic airline screw up habit and culture. From lost and delayed checked bags to delayed flights, the obvious has gotten progressively worse over the last few years, beginning well before Covid. Don’t ever think airlines won’t lie directly to the public or to you as a customer.

Remember when Delta sold their fleet of 777 extended range planes and opted for the Airbus 350 for their ATL to JNB to ATL long haul? They immediately started to re-route some of the JNB to ATL flights to Boston claiming they had experienced “unpredicted weather and headwind conditions” mid-flight over the Atlantic so had “NO CHOICE” but to re-route to Boston. A total load of bull crap lie. They forgot (or thought no one would check) that flight tracker data had gotten so good that each flight path was recorded in real time and the data could easily be recalled. Each flight path is recorded with near perfect accuracy. After one of the Delta flights from JNB to ATL was re-routed to Boston, with Delta saying the flight path had to be changed while over the Atlantic due to weather/headwind… I pulled up the flight tracker data for that flight. The flight left JNB on a heading far north of the normal path for Delta flights JNB to ATL, crossing the Africa coast in a straight line path to Boston. Delta made the decision to go to Boston before even leaving JNB! Turns out the Airbus 350 being used was marginal for that distance to begin with plus Delta was maxing out the freight load (think $$$). Boston was barely within the safety max range and Atlanta wasn’t. I guess the lying had a life expectancy and adjustments were made to the freight allowance so haven’t heard any more of the Boston routing for the ATL flights. Either that or the weather patterns and winds aloft have changed. ;);) To think airlines don’t or won’t lie about such things is delusional.

Update for me, Jennifer as usual got it sorted out and all is good for the time being.
Exactly the reason to use a travel agent and my choice is also Travel Express. They take a stress away and let you concentrate on your wonderful adventure!

All that may be true, but any pilot that doesnt check NOTAMS and all enroute weather before he departs isnt worth flying and wont keep his license.

Why rent a vehicle and pay for however your hunt is for it to just sit and not be driven.

Just get picked up at the airport and shoot a couple more animals with what the car would of cost.

He does not have to drive straight to his camp.

He could sight see and take his time for a few day before. One member here did an awesome solo motorcycle tour in Namibia and visited a few different outfitters and hunted different camps and sightseeing.

Not everything on vacation has to be cost efficient….

Some enjoy experiences. I for one think it would be fun to drive around Namibia and to your camp. Yes that cost money.

I did a tour of SA after my first hunt. And one thing I wouldn't do is to drive around and leave my vehicle with my rifle in it. On my tour we stored the rifles with a PH.

Ok. Namibia is not SA - Namib has second lowest population density in the world

I’m going to save my breath. Some people are more risk adverse and some people enjoy adventure.

Cheers

I have always had the idea if you are going hunt then go hunting, if you want to go on a adventure then do it but you need to weigh the risk of doing either one.

I’ve rented a car in South Africa and driven myself around. Cape Town is especially easy and roads are well marked. Other areas of South Africa use a little more caution. I didn’t do it in Namibia because of time constraints but would have zero issues doing it there too and plan to do it along the coast one day. Cost with fuel was probably a little less than the round trip transfer costs would’ve been.

Sometimes it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey getting there.

So yea Im going to hunt, but the hunt is an adventure and if I can drive and see country and life from that way it would add to it. Im a person that will take some risk but also want advice and risk mitigation, wouldnt do so in S.A. right now. as far as cost go ,it is about the same as a pick-up from outfit.
Thanks to all who offered a viewpoint , I would like more.
The cost of flights now make me think of delay till 27, hope not! [And the airport fiasco conditions]

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
