Best hunting knives to be passed down? ...

Most custom knives should be looked after and passed down.

A lot of members have purchased custom knives from Garry at Von Gruff Knives in New Zealand.

They are affordable custom knives and he can offer different materials and designs to suit your needs..

Best hunting knives to be passed down.? Price doesn't really matter but I wanted something that will sustain its meaning long after i'm gone
The one that you use regularly. The one that they recognize as yours is the one they want and keep

I might suggest a production knife from Puma (the made in Germany ones).

Folder or fixed?
If price is no object then get blades that tell a story unique to your family or the hunt. Layers, materials, etc. can all be customized by any good maker. David Taber and Brad Zinker make great custom folders depending on what you want. Any of us knife makers can customize a story behind your blade.

my family is of Swedish heritage and the majority of them live in Minnesota. those of you in parts of Minnesota outside the twin cities know how proud that the Scandinavian people are of their heritage. Many in my family (most of the women in my family do hunt) are very much fond of the knives made by morakniv made in Sweden. i am too. i have many of them in different variations. they are the quintessential scandanavian item: very high quality and reasonably priced. the rule in our family is that one is gifted a morakniv of their choosing when they harvest an 8 pointer or bigger with width outside the ears. not much in the way of monetary value but a source of pride within our family.

thought id share…

Hands down, Robert Parish’s Hollow Handle Survivor Series. He used to be a custom knife maker based in Hendersonville, North Carolina. His knives were made out of 440C stainless steel and built like tanks. At one time, the Canadian army used to employ them in the 1980s.

This! Before my son was old enough to hunt I took/taught my gods sons how to hunt. At the time I always used a German made hunting knife to process deer and other small game. It’s a very nice knife with real mother of pearl scales. Both of them have told he that when I leave this world they want to put that knife in my casket with me.
I hope I’m here for a long time, but I’d be honored if they did that for me.

This past season I’ve been using a few knives made by a local guy near me. He’s knives are a little rustic, but made with nice steel. Super nice guy, that I enjoy meeting with, when I pick up the knives he’s made for me. I’ve fallen in love with a few of his designs, they will be the knives I used for the foreseeable future.

Either his small hunter, or standard hunter is an exceptional hunting knife… his prices are crazy cheap for the quality and craftsmanship… and he’s an AH member…

I own a couple of dozen hand made, custom, heirloom quality blades…

The one that I use the most, and demonstrates the best quality and most craftsmanship for the best price is absolutely my hunter made by MT Maker (mountainshadows)…

In my family
Just plan case knifes have been passed down and kept.
A few skining knives and a few homemade ones.
The one that probably closer to what you mean was a stag handle puma from Germany. A friend of the family took it from a German who did not need it any more.
He used it through the war. Later gave it to my grandpa it went to dad then me. I then gave it to my usmc son-in-law when he was first sent over seas. He loved it. It’s supposed to go to the grandson later

Any knife they know was yours. So a well used knife.

I agree about MT Maker knives. I have Randall, black Jack, Niche knives, and dozens of others. I added a MT Hunter standard with Red Stag antler handle. May be the best bang for the buck in custom knives.

Hello,
I might be able to help you out depending on how many you need. I could probably spare 50-75 .285g A-Frames. They are factory pulls that look like new. Let me know if you are still looking,
Thanks,
Gary
