Alternatives to wired transfers of money

Cannot recommend Wise enough. Very, very easy.

I would get a different bank. I have 3 or 4 accounts where I have sent international transfers with no issues. My main bank I just email them the details and I get a Docusign within within the hour and they give me a quick call just to verify one more time and it's done.

With the amount of fraud that is happening I can understand the banks being a little bit cautious with wire transfers.

The last ones that I did there were a number of questions that I was asked by my smaller local bank.

But after answering the questions it was no problem in getting it sent. The nice thing was that the outfitter had a US bank account so it was not a international wire transfer, so it was a few dollars cheaper.

I found Fidelity impossible to deal with when I recently tried to send funds to a Zambian outfitter. They insisted on cross-examining me about what the funds were for, who I was contracting with, where they were incorporated, what the purpose of the funds was, and on and on.

I played along for a while until they demanded confirmation of a connection between the outfitter and recipient of the funds to be wired. I asked what proof or confirmation they wanted, and she couldn't tell me. Told them they weren't my nanny or guardian. I gave up and had to send the funds by ACH to my local bank, and wire from there.

I can't recommend Fidelity as a broker. I have to wonder if they have anti-hunters in their wire department.

I take this back.

Anyone have a recommendation for a similar online app? Much as I love USAA, international wire transfers require a long and tedious phone call.

I think USAA Bank charged me $40. Very smooth.

They did like to spell everything phonetically, must be the military influence I guess. Pretty impressed the young sounding lady knew the alphabet so well.

I just love it when the system times out in middle of writing post! Sorry about double quote.

I’ve used Remitly last couple of years without issue. They charge about $5 per transfer, either cash pick up or transfer to account. Takes about 5 work days. As a safeguard, they limit daily max to about $3500 USD.

When i paid my deposit on my hunt in South Africa, i paid the international bank transfer by going to the bank branch and paying the fee and it taking forever because the teller had no idea what to do.
For the final payment and all payments for the trophys i paid the internal money transfer directly through my online account, no fees and once you have the confirmed correct bank info, takes 2 mins from the kitchen table… so much easier.

For most African hunts by the time one trickles the fees in at $3,500 a pop and at $5 per transaction one is at wire transfer costs.

I really like it when an outfitter has an invoicing system that they email me the bill and tap a link to pay by credit card, or they have a USA bank account I can send outfitter a picture of check and he can mobile deposit it himself.

I have a few trips coming up and money will have to change hands. It seems like everyone wants a wired transfer of money.

My local bank branch (20 miles away) apparently does very little international transfers and is pretty inept, along with being costly. One transfer took 3 hours for them to figure out how to do it with me waiting, then added $100 cost to the $1,000 transferred. The next time, even more brilliant people suggested calling the receiving bank and getting information from them. They apparently were surprised when I told them I didn't speak German very well.

I have sent money by PayPal friends in the past and it worked out well. My next trip is maintaining there is no way other than wired. I had suggested Wise (Trans Wise) and Paypal.

Any suggestions?
I will give you the same suggestion I give my friends and clients in the same situation. GET A NEW BANK! Preferably a local bank not one of the majors that have tried to de-bank gun dealers etc.
What good is a bank if all they can do is the basics? I wire money all the time internationally. It is about $40 fee. I will say that if going through the painstaking process you described actually helped the staff to know how to do it in the future then maybe stick with them and hope for the best. Get a good contact at your bank and work with them.
Guys if you want to hunt the world you have to find a way to send the money!

Yes @Tanks, I know what hunts cost, been on a few. Have also had to transfer larger sums of money internationally to family. As I stated in my first post, wire transfers seem to run about $40. Such transfers are the common method for sending larger sums. I stated the limitations for using the $5 fee method and the $3500 limit but you feel obligated to repeat and highlight, for no other reason than to let everyone know how much money you have. Believe me, I don't envy your money nor your need to massage your mega-ego at every turn on this forum. Actually, quite the opposite. ;)

Ahem, mentioning the small transfers not being feasible for most hunts is not bragging about anything.

Brokerage accounts at Financial firms can do Swift wires.

If you have Premier Checking with Wells Fargo, wire transfers are free and you can do it online yourself.

They have to do their due diligence. Lots of scams out there. Yes it can feel rough, but it is for your protection.

I use Chase, very low wire fees and I can do the transfers on their app.
I also use Chase. Wire transfers are complimentary for me and take about 5 minutes at a branch 2 miles from my house. I was thinking about getting the app but have too many apps already.

I have used Chase Bank here in DFW for 4 different transfers to 2 different receivers in Namibia without a problem.
