I highly recommend that anyone with short-term plans for Mexico, stay in constant contact with the State Dept. for updates.
The current situation is as follows:
Several States and numerous cities throughout the country are now under a "Shelter in Place" advisory. The Puerto Vallarta airport has had several "incidents" and many International flights have been cancelled or diverted. The PV Costco was in flames a couple of hours ago. Cars and bus's have been firebombed and are burning on the streets.
Not good.

I’ve tried to follow this closely, our farms H2A workers are due on Friday.
I’m not that concerned about them not making it up here for work as we can get bye for a little while longer. Their safety always comes first. The same group has been coming up for at least 10 years and have become family. The violence seems to be mostly in the west and my guys are from the east so fingers crossed.

Yes. Eastern Mexico seems to be less affected...mainly because it's Gulf territory, and they were not as directly affected by the incident that kicked this off...
with the exception of Tamaulipas...but then again...it's ALWAYS Tamaulipas.

I have a good friend that is in Puerto Vallarta right now. He just retired and decided to go down there for a month long solo chill and drink on the beach vacation. Nice time to escape Alaska. The car fires in the background of his selfies about made his misses throw a fit though. He has decided to come home a little early and leave later this coming weekend.

I talked to a couple people today who have employees and bosses , family stuck in Mazatlan Mx, and cant get out, one guy was really down on global rescue travel insurance because his new son in law has a policy and GR said
“”
As of February 24, 2026,
Global Rescue is not actively evacuating people from Mexico, as the current situation has not met their threshold for services, according to spokesperson Bill McIntyre. While they provide medical evacuation for members, they are not engaged in evacuations
, I maintain a policy with them but would be ripped with infuriating anger if on a foreign country fishing/ hunting trip and civil war or unrest required emergency assistance and was brushed aside.
Maybe Mexican airspace is closed?
I’m still an advocate for having ripcord or GR for medical use but I think I will be checking my policy upgrade on civil unrest & terrorism !
Has anyone ever had an experience where an evacuation was needed?

Generally alot of places requiring evacuation have alot of heads up prior to the event

There are a couple of gentlemen here that I have debated ad nauseum about travel to Mexico...done with that nonsense.
For all others.
Mexico consistantly rates near the top of the list of most dangerous countries... full stop.
Anyone claiming otherwise is either:
Financially invested,
delusional,
uninformed,
or intentionally dishonest.
I absolutely loved the country...for over 50 years.
That country is gone.
Being a "non-targeted gringo" means nothing, when caught in the middle of a Cartel shootout...which takes place...regularly...from Ensanada/Tijuana to Guanajuato...to Cuilacan...to Cabo...to Cozumel...and any point in between. To say that Mexico is safe is a bold-faced lie.
Trust me

Ripcord. No worries. No hassle.

Agreed. No worries..if connected. A good amigo's brother-in- law just arrived back home tonight. He and 5 pals were well and truly "stuck". With no transportation available, they made it from their hotel to the airport in 5 SUV's.. 2 per vehicle...one in the lead and one pulling drag...all by way of Johns Hopkins Medical Center. They wanted those boys back...badly.
It's never been about what you know...it was.. and always will be...about who you know.
You and I?
Best of luck.

I’m a nobody and they got me out of the CAR without hassle.

Yes eastern Mexico slightly better but we still had problems finding gasoline till we got closer to Tampico , and this was before this latest narco terrorism uprising !
I don’t think I would drive to Tuxpam river again ( parts where very Sketchy off the highway )

@BGGMKLR, frustrating isn’t it. Giving people straight up information, then ending up in debate. I used to go to a large Mex border town practically every weekend. Sometimes driving, many times simply walking in. That desire ended in the 80s. Small time, soft corruption is common in many if not most third world countries including all Africa. But once that evolves into full scale internal civil war where Gov and LE loses control to criminal gangs… that’s it, I’m done with that. I’ve no interest in visiting Mexico or even any large city in the US. Last time in LA was creepy. SFO wasn’t so much creepy as sad- I had the feeling it was dying. Phoenix now feels like a small LA. There are many other visit/travel destinations, including international, that are not culturally sick or dying. But, I too am done with advising, recommending destinations and debating adults on the subject.

I always loved going to Mexico. Spent part of my honeymoon in Monterrey. Traveled to and crossed the border, mostly at Laredo, several times a year. The last time I went to Mexico was in 2004. We went to Del Rio that time and missed the shootout that took place in Nuevo Laredo. I won't go again. It makes me sad to see what has happened to a once great country.

I used to go to Mexico frequently for vacations.

That changed when I made a number of friends in the K&R industry and they advised me just how dangerous that country is. They are professional risk evaluators and were very clear it was one of the most dangerous countries in the world to visit.

But they don't put that on the websites or brochures.

When a Latina friend of my wife stopped visiting her border relatives on their advice, I really started paying attention. That's as "local knowledge" as it gets.

Ive been thinking of switching to ripcord. Global rescue is starting to get a bad rap. Either its too dangerous or not dangerous enough?

But they don't put that on the websites or brochures.

lol our fishing group that went to the Baja was just sent a email that everything is open and fine between La Paz and the Del Cabo airport. I just have to take that with a grain of salt because, well because the guys trying to get home from their combo Duck & bass trip got about the same form letter from their outfitter before they left

Thats why my post said the writings on the wall long before.

Just like if someone went to eastern ukraine 20km from the 0 line. Then claimes there all of a sudden trapped because one army or the other went on an offensive.

Any country where your generally advised to not leave the resort grounds prolly is a place that could pop off whenever

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
