New Member from NY

@Firearmdoc - Welcome to AH. I was born and raised in Upstate (central) NY near Utica.

@Roosterlund - I have family in Crown Point where 9N turns to go to the bridge to Vermont toward Middlebury. I also spent some time in Saratoga Springs while I was in the Navy.

NY does have some crap firearm laws, but the hunting and fishing is really good.

Very pretty country on your side of the state. I grew up in the Hudson Valley.
Beautiful state. Quite frankly I’ve yet to be anywhere in the state that isn’t beautiful; and I’ve been in every part of it. Were it not for the anti gunners , wannabe socialists and other restrictions, it would be a paradise.

We called it Balston Spa for the practical portion of our training, but yes. After that I was stationed on a submarine.

Navy Nuc training (classroom and practical) has moved to South Carolina. All former practical training sites are no longer being used for this purpose.

How are you familiar with that place? I know people who have lived in the area their entire lives and never knew about it.

I work for a general contractor and we do site and construction work there. Lots of Navy personnel on sight.

Hopefully they are giving you a TLD!

I was at MARF (Modified Atomic Reactor Facility) with the S3G primary and WW2 destroyer steam plant. Friend of mine went to D1G (aka "The Dig Ball"). I know they had an S8G plant there, but I didn't get to see one until I got to the fleet.

That wasn’t yesterday. Nothing is in the ball now. You should see a the new buildings. Don’t think you would recognize it now. Still giant bucks running around, they know they are safe there.

Been more than 30 years since I was there, so you are probably correct. I know the guy at DOE who's in charge of funding that site. Might have to ask him for an invite to tour the place. LOL.

@Roosterlund - I have family we also have a crap governorin Crown Point where 9N turns to go to the bridge to Vermont toward Middlebury. I also spent some time in Saratoga Springs while I was in the Navy.

We also have a crap governor and so many illegal gun laws it is hard to keep track.

Was curious do you do work on guns? Screw barrels on? Hence your username. Looking for good smith.

Great salmon and steelhead fishing there.
I used to fish for salmon and trout at the mouth of the salmon river on Lake Ontario.I was in awe when we went upstream where giant salmon jump out of the water and fishermen stand there trying to catch one. They just glided in the air as if they were in slow motion. Quite extraordinary. The Great Lakes, Finger Lakes(and their wine country),Adirondacks(And their Lakes) , Lake Champlain, Catskills, needless to say Niagara Falls (and mighty Niagara River), and of course NEW YORK CITY ! Unbelievable state actually. Has nearly everything.

Everything except politicians with half a brain. I have been to NYC a half a dozen times and found no redeeming features.

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
