I've had the rifle since new (early 1990's) and have hunted with it fairly often and I've taken good care of it. It's got minor bluing wear marks near the muzzle, mostly due to getting shoved in and out of scabbards. Easy to get moa accuracy with handloads. It might have 500 rounds though it, but that's a SWAG as I wasn't tracking round counts back in the day.
Rings:
top row, left to right:
Sako 30mm Medium rings
Sako Extended base
Sako Long Action base
Bottom row, left to right:
Leupold 1" base + Low rings
Leupold 30mm Medium rings
Sakp 30mm Low rings
Sako 30mm Extra-low rings
Magazines:
Not sure how I ended-up with 6, but whatever.
5 are 95-2 (for "short magnum" cartridges) and one is 95-1 (for "standard" cartridges). They all have strong springs, stayed attached under recoil and fed flawlessly. As you can see, they are center-feed with generous length for seating beyond SAAMI OAL. The loaded rounds pictured are 3.500 OAL with a bit of room to go longer if you wanted.
Full disclosure: The rifle suffered catastrophic failure to the stock (and scope) as a consequence of a wreck with a horse. The barreled action suffered no ill effects that I can tell. There is no visible damage and it feeds and cycles as flawlessly as it did before the wreck. Note that I have not fired the gun for obvious reason, but would not hesitate to do so if I had a stock for it.
Speaking of stocks, I found there are a few options for restocking this thing:
#1 There is currently a person in Canada selling an OEM stock. I see where these stocks do come up from time-to-time, but not frequently. There was also a time when McMillan produced a stock for this model, though haven't see any come up for sale.
#2 MPI will do a restock. I sent them pictures of the busted stock and the owner (Lisa Kane) indicated that it was no problem to salvage the bits they needed from the old to mold into one of their stocks. Apparently they do these fairly routinely and improve the bedding + recoil lug configuration in the process.
#3 KRG Whiskey-3/TRG-42 - People have done it, though it's apparently expensive.
There may be other ways to get a stock under this receiver beyond the above. Somebody handy with stockwork could maybe take the MPI approach and extract the the polymer "chassis" from the foamy outer stock bits and bed it into a wood/laminate/composite stock. I did not try to go down this route, so not sure if it's truly feasible or just looks that way to my bubba eyes.
Looking for $750 and I'll pick-up the shipping CONUS. Happy to answer questions, get additional pictures, etc.
Thanks for looking!
