When I was around 10 years old we stayed at a British army camp in Germany with friends of my parents...we visited belsen concentration camp....even at that age I noticed it was totally silent..not even a bird sound....

I used to date an Afrikaans girl who grew up in a high veld farm family, dating back generations. She once told me when the Zulus who worked alongside her family would learn her mother had given birth, they would gather amongst themselves and give the newborn a Zulu name. When the youngest sister was born, she was given a name that roughly translated to “Enough of the daughters, time for a son”. Wouldn’t you know it, a couple of years later, a son was born. She shrugged and wondered just how they knew… but know they did.
