Two Blade Broadheads or Three

Generally speaking, a two blade head will penetrate deeper than a 3 blade and a 3 blade will penetrate deeper than a 4. The difference is not that great in any case. This is when shooting the same setup. There will always be exceptions. A 4 blade BH has more cutting surfaces than a 3 or 2. Penetration isn't the whole story. It's about creating the most damage that will increase blood loss.

Most probably the most important thing that you mentioned here is that its all about the shot placement! 2 or 3 blade, fixed or mechanical. If you hit the spot you will most definitely find your animal. Practice Practice Practice and not only with your field point but actually practice with the selected broad-head or mechanical to ensure floorless results when you get to release that arrow at that prised trophy animal you've been dreaming of.

I have not had a bow yet that I couldn't tune to shoot broadheads in the same place as fieldpoints, most people don't spend the time or don't know how. They set it to center shot and nock square and think they are done, that is only the starting point! I have never set up a bow that didn't deviate from those settings to make a long story short.

I just got back from my first safari and took 4 animals with a bow. I used a three blade VPA 150 grain and a 4 blade viper trick 100 grain. Why did I use both? Probably because I was concerned about their weight and number of blades based on reading too many forums - LOL

Both arrow/broadhead combos weighed the same as I used a lighter carbon arrow with the VPA and a heavier FMJ with the viper trick. I took a Zebra and an impala with the VPA and a warthog and Nyala with the viper trick. All four were complete pass throughs. Well almost - the zebra had the fletching and two inches inside but the broadhead and 24 of 29 inches of arrow went completely through. It must have broke off the arrow when it fell approx 60 yards from where it was hit. I shoot a 2007 Diamond Black Ice at 70 lbs. Although the weight is up there, it was not known as a fast bow even when new, but it has a nice draw cycle and is easy to shoot. My opinion is that any strong sharp broadhead from a reputable brand will work if you shoot it well and your bow and arrow/broadhead combo is tuned. I got all the penetration needed for any plains game with my combo. If I was trying for a buffalo I would consider a 2 blade, otherwise you just need a solid sharp head that shoots well in your bow. 3 or 4 blades will make little difference

I never shot 4 blades with the LB; however I have been fine with the two blade Zwickey, Kodiak or Grizzly. What I like in a broad head are the following:
-Reusable, don't like to have to change bent or broken blades,
-"Over killing", as a little contingency plan is case of games with large scapula and high elbow anatomy, I shoot good but I'm not infallible,
-Easy sharpened in the field. I carry a wet stone, diamond stick and a file,
-Having a ratio of Width/Length of 1/3 a lot of mechanical advantage,
-No wind planning (vented), the only way to check is to try them,
If you trust Muzzy I would go for the Fred Eichler Signature Phantom broad heads, 150 grains, removing the bleeder blades.
