are the "rods of God" the heavy (titanium?) projectiles which would strike the earth with a tremendous penetrating force? I understand they would we about as effective as an asteroid strike of similar mass.

Something like that. I have read that a tungsten "telephone pole" weighing 20,000 lbs being released from orbit at around 12,000 miles per hour has the penetration to go several hundred feet into the earth and could create a small atomic type explosion without the fallout. All theoretical but the idea goes back a few decades. Obviously atmosphere would slow the speed but I presume an engineer on AH could do the calculations as to the kilotons of energy created.

@CoElkHunter , if you enjoy that history, next time your in that area rent a car and just drive through northern and central Virginia. Lots of civil war and revolutionary war history scattered about around the Shenandoah River valley and Chesapeake bay.
When the wife and I are retired in the next year or so, I want to camp somewhere with our fifth wheel in that area and drive to different battle sites and WALK trails through the areas. I made it to Gettysburg for one day in the late ‘90s and I want to go back for a couple of days. Same with Custer’s battlefield at the Little Bighorn. I had one day there and I could have used two. I’m grateful for the experiences during family vacations but I relish the thought of going back and soaking up the history without distractions. Guess I’m a little strange that way. LOL

Similar power and ballistics as the 6.5 CM, or is it the 35 Whelen?

Pretty good description. It would be classified, but I would question Israel's ability to lift ten tons into orbit. Their recon satellites would be quite a bit smaller.

Well, Townsend @Bob Nelson 35Whelen isn’t an engineer, but based on his velocities with his scientific experiments with the .35 Whelen cartridge, I’m sure HE could do the calculations that would be required. Just saying.

In fact Arlington Cemetery is something of an act of revenge against Lee and the Custis family into which Lee married. In 1864, the Union suffered massive casualties during the Battle of the Wilderness and was running out of cemetery space in the capitol area. Gen. Montgomery Meigs recommended the plantation as the best available land for a new military cemetery. Because of the war, there was an unpaid tax lien on the property of around $1500 in today's currency value. Mary Custis Lee sent an agent to pay the alleged tax, but he was refused access to what became a tax sale of the property to the United States government. Having essentially stolen the property from Lee and the Custis family. The Yankee - I mean federal - government began burials almost immediately.
Everyone, I mean everyone should visit Arlington.
I have couple friends laying there and visit whenever I'm in DC area.
Seeing the different religious (mostly christian obviously but there are jews, muslims, hindus, non believers, etc..) headstones and names from all over the World is a humbling experience.

I love history of all kinds myself.

A good freind of mine from Spain laughs at me about what we in the U.S. call antiques.

He told me the story about watching his grandmother working in the kitchen grinding herbs with a mortar and pestle that was older than America.

I’m wondering if Israel will hit one target, just one, to prove a point. Iran launches hundreds of drones and rockets and hits nothing, Israel launches one and hits the intended target.

Targeting an offshore oil or gas facility would be easy and no collateral damage. However, it would impact global energy prices and we would all pay for it. Maybe hit an Iranian ship in port of military base.

Yes. Soldiers throughout the world fought (and still fight) and many died to rid the World of tyranny so we may live in peace and prosper. The WW2 monument especially emphasizes that with all the countries involved in that war enshrined in granite as remembrance of what should never happen again.

I had several direct ancestors who fought in the War between the States. One was a young infantryman in a South Carolina Regiment of the Army of Northern Virginia who fought at Cold Harbor and on through the siege of Petersburg where he was wounded and captured. My mother grew of age knowing him as her favorite uncle. A great aunt on my father's side, who married an elderly confederate veteran when she was quite young, was the last widowed Confederate pensioner in Tennessee when she died. I remember her quite well. The war had the immediacy of recent history in my family. Another ancestor on that side of the family rode with Forest in Tennessee and Mississippi. The most notable was again on my mother's side. His name was William Barksdale, and he fell mortally wounded at Gettysburg leading his Mississippi Brigade in a charge that broke a Union Corps on the second day.

Northern Virginia is a wonderland of history. Everyone should see Gettysburg and the ground Pickett tried to cross on the third day. But ghosts walk on the battlefield of Sharpsburg (Antietam as the Yankees call it.) Just over the border in Maryland, it has hardly changed an iota since 1862. The park service is doing a magnificent job maintaining its original state. Relatively few people visit it because most tourists are pretty poorly educated and have never heard of it. But, Sharpsburg was the single bloodiest day in American history. Lee was outnumbered two-to-one but fought McClellan standstill.

Our home outside Leesburg had a barn dating to the 1850's. I looked hard, but never could find conclusive evidence that Mosby had used it as a rallying point.

China purchases around 90% of Iran's oil. The CENTCOM commander was talking about this issue in the recent testimony before the House and Senate. More details are in this article...

In my opinion, dealing with China needs to be part of the solution, short of bombing Iran or escalating the conflict in the middle east. What that looks like would likely be very inconvenient for Americans who do a lot of business with China, but I think embargoes on imports from China until the CCP stops buying this oil could hurt both Iran and China. Would it also hurt shareholders and certain sectors of the US economy? Yes it would. However the rise of China has largely been funded by the US, and lots of Americans have gotten very wealthy while investing in our biggest competitor. The same competitor that is ignoring US sanctions on Iranian oil exports.

I grew up right outside of Richmond, eastern Henrico county still has some beautifully maintained battlefield parks as well. Richmond National Battlefield Park is nice and worth checking out. A friend of mine had earthworks on his property and actually had a deer stand built on top of one! He lived in Varina, right down the road from the Battle of Malvern Hill. Unfortunately, Petersburg has a lot of history, but is not a pleasant place to visit.

That might be difficult, as Iran and Qatar share an oil patch in the middle of the gulf.

I stood at the field of Pickett's charge. It wasn't under till and I believe it was a cornfield when he charged but I may be mistaken. I thought, what was he thinking? If the Confederates had better intelligence, they could have overwhelmed the Union troops defending Little Round Top and won the day. It's all very interesting to me.

Mate the Whelen has the same effect on any animal hit .

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
