What is your 'I wish I was xx' age?

Well I guess it depends on your thoughts/beliefs on religion, according to some we are on the path we really had no choice in. Others think our actions and reactions are happen stance.

I have often said I would go back to my senior year in high school, I had planned on joining the service with the goal of special forces. As what happens in high-school fell in love. SF is one of those things you either have it or you don't. Never had the chance to prove to myself I could make it happen.

I'm not disappointed in my life, it has had ups and downs. Love my family would not trade them. So when you look at everything as a whole, I'm not sure I could go back and risk loosing my family. For that reason if pressed would have to stay where I'm at.

An enjoyable thread … my twisting of Father Time would merely be for a “moment in time” to make better choices then swiftly back to the present!

Teenage years … NEVER buy cheap condoms next to the cash register @ Gas Station while on a Lake Cabin vacation (or ever)!

1980 @ 17: … to buy that 1966 Baracuda I could afford to buy (great Summer @ GrandPa Farm) BUT I couldn’t afford to drive = Insurance, & Dad wasn’t having it Ugg! I should have bought the Cuda & parked it till 18-yrs!

2015 @ 51: … BAD choice to pass on a big, quality Oryx Bull over waiting on a special Waterbuck that never showed, Ugg! Then 2-days later I repeated that bone head decision on Big Quality Black Wildebeest! I should have put both those Big Quality Bulls in the salt that year! NO special Waterbuck this trip … triple downer!

2016 @ 52: … BAD choice to pass on a big, quality Impala Ram waiting on a special Waterbuck that never showed, Ugg! I should have put that Big Quality Ram in the salt!

Back to back years & bad pattern emerging but the Hunters Silver Lining is I extended the hunt x 3-days & special Waterbuck hit the salt!

My Life Lesson: Take what the Bush veldt offers … 5 trips later & I’ve yet to lay eyes on the size/quality of Oryx, Black Willy, & Impala I let walk :cautious: & I’m looking hard each trip!

Happy Trails

At 50 I’ve had a great life. I’ve got the best wife in the world and 2 fine sons. Great relationship with my parents, I knew all of my grandparents and a couple of great grand parents. If I could get another run at it knowing that I’d still be in the same boat, I’d take it in a heartbeat with just a few edits.

Not sure i have a specific age, but I most assuredly wish I had listened to my gut and followed my own interests and not simply 'find a good job with benefits" In hindsight that advice was given by people who did just that and ended up relatively unhappy. It has resulted in working in a field that I have absolutely no passion for, so feels like a treadmill…

also, “always have a plan B” is horrible life advice. You may change direction at some point in the future, but for crap sake, don’t START life going in two directions at once. You can’t do it. Put all your energy into one thing, stick with it through the ups and downs and keep moving.

just my .02c

I'm 60 years old, and I believe in good health and still going strong. Like many have said, I'm at a point in my life where life is good, I have a wonderful and understanding wife, kids are grown and have kids of their own (grandkids are great). I've gone to Africa twice, planning on a third. Hunt out of state every year, and have a place I hunt locally. Life is good.

Too many mistakes to list them all, but without that experience, I wouldn't be the individual I am today. Live and learn. Should I have gone left vs. right at the fork? Well, it took longer to get where I'm at, but life is good, and wouldn't change anything I currently have.

As far as the body is concerned, I'd go back to 21. (Minus the Crohn's Disease that hit me at 20).
As far as the mind and body combined is concerned, I'd go back to 35.
As far as memories and wisdom are concerned, I'd stay where I am now. 51.

However, the ultimate would be to have my current knowledge and the body of a 25 year old.

39 here. Wish I could take my 20’s back. Too much alcohol and wasted money. I have accumulated much in my 30’s. If I would have done that in my 20’s then many African safaris I would have been to already.
I spent half my money on liquor and women. The other half I wasted. Not my line but I can relate to it.

If you could transport yourself back to a personal age, any age, what would it be? This question is not 'what era would I like to be in'? That is for another thread and we will put that under the title 'what era would you like to be living in', but rather just would you like to go back in time in your own life?

What prompted my interest in this topic is that people sometimes say "I wish I was 20 again", or whatever age. But having given it a lot of thought in my own context, I think I would pass on the transporter and stay right where I am, right now, at 68. For me the reason is simple - I worked pretty hard in life, educated the kids, went through some very lean financial times, but now I have eventually got to a point where I have the means to make the dreams come true, the means being the financial wherewithall, time and freedom to spend that precious time. Modern life with a good dose of nostalgia suits me just fine.

So do you have a time that was so utterly wonderful for you that you would go back there, or maybe for a few visionaries to jump ahead a few years is the way forward?
Right now at 63. I lost my wife of 30 years to mental illness and decided to change my life. Two years after her passing I experienced both this great forum and Africa, double rifles and more. I got remarried and realize life is so rich and every day should never be taken for granted. Going on my third safari in 23

Tanks I have been nominated by our friends to ask how that younger trade up worked‍♂️
Worked great until she got older, then I had to repeat again. I seem to get bored after 7-10 years. My personal failing for looking at women as a renewable resource. On the 4th long term relationship now.

My dad got a kick out of it a while back. He had just celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary, he turned to me and said "If I were like you, I'd be on my 6th wife now". :ROFLMAO:

I’m on third wife. First one miss Georgia. Beautiful woman just we grew apart after 4 years. Second the love of my life for 30 years and two children before she died. My third is my best friend and chills me out when needed. Life is good!

I think that I would go back 3days ago and instead of ordering the meatloaf at cracker barrel I would have went with the chicken. Yes. If only I could

This is tough question to some degree. Not changing anything going forward, just going back in time. I would say age 22-23. I was living in San Monica, CA with my best friend going to a trade school, that was mainly international students. When not in school we were surfing, biking, rollerblading, skiing, chasing tail and of course having fun on the Hollywood strip. Really no care in the world, almost living for the moment. Fast forward 10 years later, I became a workaholic and have not stopped for 17 years. I finally realizing at 50, I wasted my 30 and 40 not enjoying the simple things and taking time off. 2023 is the year to slow down. I am lucking, I am still in decent shape, pretty good health, have great wife and daughter. Got my daughter first bow this year, she is 8. Actually it is a hand me down 1963 "Little Bear". She calls herself a bow hunter now. I bought her two chipmunks 22 from a AH member she does not know about yet. Cannot wait to take her shooting. And finally I plan on going back to Africa in 23/24 after a 22 year absent.
