Booking for 2022, ~5 weeks in Africa

I will be spending the night on the 17th of August in Lusaka. So, if you are there that night we can get together for a drink or so.

Well, 53 days out. The only change in plans was to push the trip back a couple of days so Dean could attend a wedding, so we arrive at Harare on the 22nd of July and I head to Nyakasanga on the 2nd of August.

Started my pre-Safari preparation. Even though I had been shooting all year none was with the .500, so took it out and checked out the RMR zero. Hit the bull, so it is good. The plan is to take it out twice a week until I leave shooting about 150 rounds or so in total in ranges from 25 yards to a 100 yards.

A friend wanted to come and watch also taped it. Here is the video.

Might want to enter into negotiations with Mike @spike.t about one of his bushbuck - you will see a couple of nice ones.

Envious! Have a great adventure!

Wow! 5 weeks of safari, a dream come true! Safe travels and don’t forget to send some pics and war stories back to those sitting at home! :)

What an awesome sounding adventure, I look forward to reading your hunt journal, it sounds like a great adventure.

Good luck on your preparations I'm sure you will be able to locate and find a nasty Tuskless ele and be able to shoot it at extremely close range.

Have fun getting things ready.

You might be breaking a very serious hunting law or offending the hunting gods if you don’t have bushbuck tags on your pocket.

On a trip like this you might walk into an 18 incher.

Sounds like an amazing safari for sure. I can’t wait for the report.

Quite an itinerary, like the safari of old. It would be a real pity if you didn't also take your 9.3 double, there is a select group I am noticing doing the two double safari's, it is really special, like you did last time. I would like to open a forum for such hunts.
I hear that The Hide is wonderful, be sure to check out the little museum for all the history, including the railway. The camp we just stayed at, Changa, is owned by the same group and their attention to detail is really good.

I was told the range for Lechwe could be 250+ yards plus which makes the .300 RUM better suited. For next year's lion hunt (possibly) I could take the 9.3 double or a 450/400 for it. And of course the .500 NE for all the bait (hippo, buffalo, tuskless etc.)

Either Zambia or Zimbabwe. Had a conversation with Andrew Baldy regarding Zambia which is fluid in opportunity. I will talk to Buzz regarding his areas in Zimbabwe when I meet with him on the 17th of August.

Both are importable to USA assuming the paperwork and due diligence is done by the areas (surveys, anti-poaching patrols etc., etc.).

I wish you luck and hope to be reading another thread in the coming months

Have being following Buzz's lion tracking hunts early in the seasons that must be the ultimate lion hunting to be found in Africa.

Well, my girlfriend liked my Pelican Air so much on a trip to Norway recently that I got her another one for Africa. She didn't want to have her Rimowa suitcase thrown on the back of a Land Cruiser. Red handled one is mine and blue handled one is hers.

She is amazed that I have started to put stuff in my suitcase a month out. I will do complete packing with packing cubes etc. once I have everything crossed off my packing list.

Roger that! I have the same problem with my wife. I start packing long before the trip. She is a last minute packer...

Took me almost 10 years, but I finally convinced her on the last solo trip to make a packing list. In the past she'd just throw stuff together and then shop for items that were needed and left out (maybe on purpose? :ROFLMAO: ). That doesn't work when one is going to middle of nowhere. Heck, I am even taking hot sauce on this trip as the ones I saw and used in Zimbabwe are pretty mild. Bought two bottles, one for Zim another for Zambia. Just like all liquids I vacuum seal them for the trip and open at destination, that way they do not leak and mess up clothes etc..

Those Pelicans will certainly keep your socks safe. I am very tempted to buy this antique croc leather case, silver plated locks, made in Ehgland. Perfect for a trip on Rovos Rail.

Nice. I like leather luggage, I used to travel with them all the time, but had to change as they are no longer legal since airlines put dimension limits on everything.

what does the inside of those pelican air look like?

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.
