What do you do when your taxidermist wont respond

Update

Dennis Harris sent me a PM here and a FaceBook Messenger PM today.
Final arrangements are being put in place for my wife and I to drive up to his studio to pay off our debt and remove our items and then go home.

Boy this makes me appreciate my taxidermist even more. And for many reasons. #1 is that he is a phenomenal taxidermist and has clients from all over North America and overseas. #2 is the fact that communication is immediate. His wife and another lady work the front office and are always on top of things. The fact that he’s in the same town as me doesn’t hurt either! And #3 is that he is a people person. He always has time to talk if you stop in the shop. He may not stop working, but he’ll happily chat with you for as long as you like (within reason) even though he is incredibly busy. Great taxidermist and great person.
I think we all need a taxidermist like Ragman has!!!
Is he reasonably priced too?

I am glad that you at least have a way to resolve the problem. I am still hopeful that I will get my animals without additional delay. Good luck!!

I am aware of several customers of his as I have recieved a lot of PMs from worried clients.
I wish them all the best of luck that their situations improve.

Ted I am sorry for your troubles with Dennis. Dennis does all my taxidermy and it is outstanding work not one bad piece ever and he has fixed some major messed up stuff flawlessly. HOWEVER Dennis is not good communicator, sorry guy the truth. Ted when you get to his shop out in the middle of nowhere you will see just how busy he is literally there are tons of mounts in process of being done and he works himself to the bone long days his hands on only. If I were him I would stop taking new clients and work. as he is already past max capacity. In my opinion ALL TAXIDERMIST ARE A PIA! But in the end I would rather have great work from a skilled artist who is slow and a poor communicator than shit work from a MR. Nice guy.

Thanks Buckdog, You are about as much as a pain in the ass and I am. LOL But WE CLICK and so do many of you guys. No offense taken at your comments about communication.
Ted , see you sometime maybe this next week.
I Can't please everyone tho,I try, No one is perfect but strive for it.
If any clients have any issues they would like to discuss
Call the studio, it is cell phone and studio phone or Email cremudgen34@yahoo.com
And will tell talk to you and address your concerns as this more that is here.
Thank you
Dennis

As others are chiming in, I will too. First, from my research it appeared to me that the average time from field to house is two years and that is the time that I could have had, if I had Dennis crated and ship them to me, instead of him delivering them a month later, my choice. Considering the guy who I use for white-tail has a 10-12 month turnaround, two years is not bad from ground to house.

Second, as to communications, that was not my experience. I received an e-mail from him when they skins were picked up from the fur dressing company. (Which was a lot faster then the time posted on the fur dresser website.) The only time I had to call was when I was going on vacation, to make sure they were not going to be delivered while on vacation. I received a call as to how I wanted the mounts. I will say that I am not one that has to have their hand held, when I give a job to someone I expect it to get done and only need to hear about exceptions.

Third, I’ve seen a lot of taxidermy, most of which is marginal. There are a lot of taxidermy shops in Texas. Jerry Huffaker’s in Abilene is probably the best in the state. It would of been cheaper for me to use him as I could have cleared my crate myself at DFW or IAH and driven the crate there. I drove to Austin to inspect Dennis work at a friend of a friends house. The work was excellent. The guy’s lion was spectacular. (Dennis had to deliver that after dark, so the neighbors would not see.)

My stuff is currently on the walls of my living room, it is all excellent. The Waterbuck and Gemsbok are superb. Dennis will get my next trip work too, even though it’s more expensive for me because I can’t clear my own crate in Chicago.

And no one asked me to post this.

Dennis is the absolute best taxidermist I have ever used or seen....no "ifs ands or buts"
In the begining of our relationship our communication was GREAT!!!! But as time moved on in was not satisfactory nearly non existent on one side....
Bad relationships are toxic and they are best ended after attempts are made to repair.
This relationship has kept me up at night and has caused me to change my oppinion on taxidermist

I’m sorry if this has already been said. However, this boils down to communication & expectations. Along with anything promissory or misleading.

If communication is clear, then there is nothing left to assume or not known.

If one tells their clients. “I don’t return emails or phone calls, but you will receive your product when promised & communicated I guarantee it”. Then no sweat.

If one advertises “I don’t return calls, emails, etc.... “ Probably never see another client.

I get that people & occupations come in all varieties. However, if you can’t meet basic expectations like communication in 2020. Then hire someone to do it on your behalf.

Yah , my customer service satisfaction not as good as product satisfaction that's 100%
I Make up for it, when I give like free bases added perks for repairs and or repairs for fully crap blown up skins and make look good that other taxidermist would not mount or could not mount or Cheap or Free delivery, I always do something for my Sometimes Late times. There is NO business with 100% customer satisfaction rate.
