Hi chaps,
planning on a bow hunt in Namibia 2020. It will be my first bow hunt in Africa although I have hunted many times with rifle.
Could you tell me what is the distance the blinds will be from the quary for shooting. I am confident at 25 yards.
Many thanks, Markcz

I have bowhunted Namibia 3 times and have hunted several farms. Most all my shots where 25 yards and under. Some of the water holes where like 15 to 18 yards. There should be no need in shooting past 30 yards setting over water. I have also been told that the very best two weeks to bowhunt over water. Is the last of Sept and first week off Oct and in 2020 it will be new moon. Hope you have a wonderful bowhunt crazy the number of game you will see

I hunted at a waterhole in Namibia that was a little over 30 to the opposite side of it as I recall. 15-30 is typical. Best bet is to ask your outfitter when you start firming up plans.

I hunted over water troughs for cattle mainly. Brush the back side of water and it force them to drink broadside. I also like using popup blinds over permanent blinds. So you can move them. African game not as leery as whitetail to popup blinds. Like Ryan said your outfitter should answer your questions on yardage. If they can't you might think of finding a different outfitter. Man I love bowhunting

As a rifle hunter first I have to force myself to be patient and wait, which is really my challenge. I also get way more excited bow hunting than I ever do rifle hunting.

In an attempt to combat this, I practice on paper targets out to a distance twice as far as I would ever consider shooting at an animal.
When I go to shoot a critter at the desired range there will be zero doubt about my ability to do my job properly.

What @KMG Hunting Safaris said.

I agree about asking your Outfitter about his blind placements to make sure you know what you are getting in to.

Just as important in my opinion, practice holding a long time. Animals often show en masse, and that shot may come and go and come about again in an instant. I held for well over a minute on a blue wildebeest as the herd moved about, and I drew and let down three times on my bush pig.

I blacked out and came by again three times on your bushpig....

It was a tense few minutes. I'm not gonna lie, by the time I got the shot that pin was moving in a small circle on it's kill zone.

I like to practice much farther than I would take a initial shot, once I had a bull elk take a step just as I released he ran out to 70 yards where I was able to put a fatal arrow in him.

Ask your outfitter shooting distance at the water holes you are hunting, Also ask them if the WIND IS WRONG WILL they MOVE to another blind, some will some wont, it doesn't sit to well with me hunting with the wind wrong.
Like has already been said practice long shoot close, you never no when you will make a bad shot and have to track the animal and make a long follow up shot.
Study the atomy of African game, vitals are further forward than north American. Forrest
