Sako proper front sight for a Sako with Peep sight

I am hoping some one can help me? I am supposed to come up with a front sight for a Sako, not sure what model but it is a factory .416 Rigby. I got this person a rear factory Peep sight, he never installed the rear sight. Now he has lost his front sight blade. If anyone know what style blade (side drift fit) or push in from the front and the proper height. The rifle is about a five hour drive away and he does not like going through all of our "New" Zimbabwe security roadblocks.

Is there any chance of getting photos or a description of the Sako?
Sako has a few Sako 85 models (current production) in .416 Rigby, but I think there have been some in out of production models too. The 85 has three lug bolts. At least the current Sako 85 Safari and 85 Brown Bear models can be had in .416 Rigby.

Good old Zimbabwe, ZESA (our electric company) just went out! Daily occurrence. I have asked him to send me a picture of the action and a close up of the front sight. When does he need the sight? Now! When will he send me the picture? Maybe never! I looked at the rifle once before because he told me it was a genuine Rigby .416, In my disappointment I found it to me a SAko with a glossy stock in .416 Rigby! I have some high blade sights like Marble sights and then some NECG and Ruger blades. I do not kn0w if I have any high enough that I can fit.

Why doesn't he know what model rifle he shoots? I do not think there is answer for that question and you would choke if I told you his position in the hunting fraternity.

Glossy stock? Was it wood stock or laminate stock? I have a new Sako 85 Safari in .416 Rigby. Here are the sights of my rifle.

The stock however is matt oiled so not glossy at all...

Pulled out my wife’s sako AV 375 HH and realized it only has a leapold 1.5—5. No sights. Guess she hasn’t let me mess with it too often sooo I’m not much help. Hope u r well. Jacques

The Sako 85 has a height adjustable front blade that slides in from the top of the ramp and pivots on a cross pin. The height is adjustable over several millimetres by using set screw in front of the blade - so if it's a model 85 you will need Sako's own sight but if you can locate one it should work Ok with the height adjusted.

if your friends rifle is an older Sako like the AV they use a dovetail style blade that drifts in from the side. The dovetail slot is metric measurement and I believe it measures the same as is used on many Mauser 98 rifles 5.26mm. It is certainly smaller than American standard 3/8" dovetail.

Brownell's in the USA sell a "Mauser' front sight that is a simple blade, made high so it can be filed down to the correct height. I predict it will work if your friend's rifle has that style of front sight blade. "078-050-000WB .375" Dovetail Front Sight Blank Steel Black" Hope that helps.

Hi, Thanks a lot, I know I am going to have to take my "sights box" and I know that I have one of Brownells Mauser front blades, files, drift, brass hammer and my site-A-line and I should have him back in business. Now if one us can get the fuel to get together!
