Two immediate thoughts:

1.) They "sidebar" define trophy hunters as fat and then imply that success is based solely by the PH capability and road access to the hunt.

2.) They define trophy hunting as hunting for purposes of gaining animal remnants as collectibles. Not, as harvesting mature specimens that are at their maturation pinnacle or post pinnacle status. I find that very interesting.

I did find this quote interesting:

I wonder where they're getting their data. Just about everything I've read shows that photographic safaris have much lower revenues and have to limit themselves to national parks because they can't possibly sustain their own lands and populations of wildlife, as hunting outfitters do in RSA.

Wow! What a great piece of marketing. Their data analysis does not show a difference in population for whether species that had bans on hunting, such as the polar bear, had population spikes because the bears weren't being hunted. This report clearly is about stopping hunting and is not about saving wildlife. Also, while the black bear is the #1 imported species by over 90,000 from 2004-2014, they skew the report by making it seem like the 200,000 species in ten years was primarily from Africa. I'm guessing our last presidential administration read this tear jerking report and jumped on the band wagon to stop lion importation, when it's really the black bears that need help in Canada. I wasn't familiar with this group, but now I know they've spent about $100,000 on this crap instead of using that money to protect habitat.

It does not matter where the get their info or if it is true. They put it out and people slurp it up as the truth. The uninformed won't seek the truth.

Methodology is also skewed. Having export denied or import seized of a black bear under say USDA or FWS rules with no citation given is not equivalent to poaching of an animal.

The report clearly mixes many types of data to suggest systemic problems that have no correlation. Many bears being harvested for American consumption has nothing to do with illegal poaching of elephants for illicit trafficking of ivory to China.

So to agree with everyone else: the report is terribly designed and the data skewed intentionally. Therefore, the conclusions are also invalid.
